ASRock Model AM2CPU Bridge Card CPU Upgrade Module for ASRock K8/939 Series Motherboards

Pros: This was by far the easiest upgrade I have ever performed. Unlike replacing a mobo, all I had to do was update BIOS (2.2 on ASRock website), change a few banks of jumpers, plug the card in, and turn the system on. No upgrading or repairing Windows and hoping it recognizes the new components without haveing to do a clean install. This was a seamless upgrade that was absolutely transparent to XP Pro.

Cons: None associated with the product; I have compatibility issues with the HSF bracket mounting holes and my waterblock, but that's not the fault of this board.

Other Thoughts: I have MANY things hooked up in my system - Four waterblocks (CPU, GPU, NB, SB), four HDDs, firewire and USB connectors, case lights, optical drives, etc. etc. etc. Unlike when replacing a mobo, this upgrade required me to disconnect ZERO components from the mobo (except for the 4-pin power lead, which gets plugged into the card). The only thing I had to do was pull my video card out for a few minutes while I changed the jumpers. This entire upgrade took me about ten minutes. Can't beat it!

Pros: Easy installation-Installed this on a 939Dual-SATA2 M.B. w/Dual core AM2 4200 CPU and Dual Channel DDR2-800Mhz memory. The machine booted the first time with correct values in the BIOS.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have read that this bridge card will also support am3 cpus whem available. Be aware that the BIOS must be current enough to support this card. Mine was not, and since I did not have a 939 cpu I had to have the BIOS upgraded at the store I purchased it from for $xx.

Pros: Easy to install, instructions are clear and easy to follow, jumper changes on mother board were easy, bios flash was flawless

Cons: none as of now

Other Thoughts: I have an Asrock K8Upgrade-vm800 motherboard and was delighted to be able to upgrade to AM2 slot and 64X2 chip.I was somewhat apprehensive of the bios change and jumper setting changes but the download for the bios from Asrock's web site went perfectly and the motherboard instruction booklet was clear on the jumper changes.I'm glad that I bought an upgradable motherboard at this point in time. I however don't know if the performance of the upgrade is similar to a motherboard dedicated to an am2 slot.I'm also happy that newegg stocked this item. I had a really hard time finding a vendor for the 939cpu card my board was originally designed for so I never bought one but newegg had the am2 card so I got one.

Pros: This is an easy upgrade if you have an ASRock board with the Future CPU slot. This card should fit without a problem in most any case (Lots of people have been skittish on this card, but it's about the same size as an AGP card really).

Cons: Only voltage settings are Low, Normal and High, but it's not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: AM2 CPUs will get much more popular when DDR2 latency is improved, and when it can take advantage of the AM2 CPU's bandwidth. Don't count AMD out yet!
