1 out of 5 eggsNot one of Netgears best products

Pros: Cheap price,, when it works it's just,,OK. I would NOT recommend them.

Cons: Bought 3 of these last time they were on sale. They were terrible until I upgraded the firmware. Even then one was so unreliable I just tossed it. The other two worked,, somewhat. One did alright up until a few weeks ago when it stopped connecting. The other one connected but was PAINFULLY slow.

Other Thoughts: After a good amount of research I replaced them with Diamond WR300N. While not as cheap these things, they have been VERY good! A little tricky to set up but have not dropped connection once and speed is fast enough to stream movies.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent router

Pros: I picked this up as a refurb to replace my non-tech sister's failed router. Set up is on par with other routers; for a simple protected Wi-fi network, it only takes a few minutes. She hasn't had to call me recently to have me help her fix it over the phone, so it must be doing alright!

Cons: I also use one of these same routers. It doesn't seem to reach the speeds I hoped, and I find that I have to power cycle mine every week or two after it just drops my internet connection. However, for the price, I can handle the inconvenience, hence the 4 stars.

Other Thoughts: I used to swear by Netgear products, then swore off them for a while. I'm slowly letting myself buy them again, but over the years and after trying about a dozen different routers from various brands, one thing stands out: if you want a nice, reliable router that is going to have higher speeds and longer range, shell out the extra money.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good idea.

Pros: When it works seems to work amazingly fast.

Cons: My problem with this router is the shaky connection. I mostly game and surf the web so i use the internet A LOT.. And I have to say out of the day my connection now cuts off 2 or 3 times through out the day.. I don't if it's because I or what but when I go off to school my family says it doesn't cut as much. But every time I come home I have problems with it constantly. I'm just now learning to look at the reviews about items before buying so please if you haven't bought this router, so yourself the time and energy and stay away from this product.

Other Thoughts: After looking this N300 up to see the reviews, I quickly noticed that I wasn't the only one having this problem. I immediately registered an account to write my review.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsDrops Packets/Unsteady Connection

Pros: Blazing fast speeds, when it works. I can load 3 different tabs of 1080p HD videos on youtube with no problem, while having a game like League of legends running in the background.

Cons: Unsteady connection. Sometimes, the connection completely messes up, and I have to disconnect and reconnect. Also, sometimes, i lose up to 50% of the packets when I ping any external IP addresses.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if it's just my router, but the constant disconnects and the occasional (but severe) packet loss is a huge problem for me, as I am an avid gamer, and I need a steady connection

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Andy,

We are sorry to hear you are dealing with an unstable connection, as a gamer myself I can certainly feel your pain.

There are a few things you can try that may fix the problem. First would be to contact our support team at support.netgear.com. You can also use our forums to browse or post your own question.
http://forum1.netgear.com/

We also recommend checking to see if you have the latest firmware upgrade-- Having the latest firmware almost always should increase performance.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to set up for general wifi, great price. Like always Newegg shipping and customer service top notch.

Cons: Some of the extra features like repeater are tricky to set up, but not impossible with a little trial and error, they just take more time then you want them to.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router At Any Price

Pros: Cheap, Easy to set up, nice range, good repeater function

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Hooked two of these puppies up as a repeater/base setup to improve range from one end of my home to a basement office on the other end. Carefully adjusted all settings as directed and worked like a charm right away.

I hope these last a long time, but even if they worked for 12 months, at $20 or $30 for each, I'm way ahead of the game. We'll see.
