2 out of 5 eggs6 months later

Pros: features, build quality, design.

Cons: absolutely aweful screen, the crappiest TN matrix i've seen since 90x: low contrast, low viewing angles and worst color fidelity. another serious problem is super-high native resolution, which is made to hurt your eyes.

Other Thoughts: this is my 3rd review after 6 months of ownership. i can deal with most of the problems described in other reviews, but the screen quality has proven to be unacceptable so i am selling the laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsA Computing Thoroughbred

Pros: A true speedster. Can handle multi tasking well, such as DVD burning while writing a paper, etc.

The native screen resolution, 1680 × 1050, is great for multiple windows and watching movies.

Keyboard area feels comfortable with the rubber coating.

Graphics card that handles today's games but doesn’t break the bank (or the battery).

Love that slot-loading DVD burner. I've always hated the standard laptop trays where you had to "lock" the disc in. I feel they aid to bending the disk. This obviously doesn't do it. Plus slide out trays can interfere with your mouse.

Integrated Wi-Fi AND Bluetooth (Turion platform one ups Centrino).

An eye catching laptop. If you don't want to the same looking laptop as everyone else this is it.

Cons: Cost. Premium and Ferrari are synonymous. Similar capabilities now are cheaper. At the time I bought it I couldn't beat it for what I wanted to do.

Screen is not as captivating or vivid because it isn't glossy. You will really crank up the brightness.

Speakers won't handle movies. No media controls, as is the ability to play movies/music without turning laptop on.

Love it or leave it matching Bluetooth mouse. I just got fed up with it and bought a Logitech mouse.

The parts are no longer cutting edge (such as the graphics card) as when I bought it. But that's not a surprise.

Computer BIOS only recognizes up to 2 gigs of RAM (so there goes one of x64's benefits)

If you are like me and run x64 than then beware of: driver support for other hardware (Acer has the computer's required drivers on its site), some 32 bit programs have issues or don't work, and lack of native 64 bit programs.

Other Thoughts: Thin and light notebook that doubles as a multimedia machine and not a bad option for gaming. Not too heavy, though by no means the most portable laptop.

Not a lot of pre-installed programs but it is seemingly free of bloatware.

Battery life is average at around 3 hours.

Highly recommend tuning various parts of the computer, such as the FAT to NFTS. If it's too slow, recommend a clean install of Windows.

Speaking of which I've used this
with XP x64. More stable than 32 bit windows, but if you don't know what it is than don't bother.

Get yourself a laptop lock ASAP.

I love mine. I use it for everything, from movies to DVD burning to Internet to music. Oh and school work. It is after all my college notebook. Education. Education on so many fronts.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Performer

Pros: Solid performer, 1680x1050 resolution is so awesome. I do website building as a job and the resolution helsp so much. you can fit an entire word document sheet on screen legibly. (if ur blind u can just hit accessibility options and up text size, I don't know what gluzd was having problems with) I've used it for video editing with Adope Premiere Pro 1.5, Photoshop CS2 Macromedia Studio and some other high perfomance apps w/o any problem. I can play Need for speed most wanted with medium level of detail at 1400x1050 and it rocks. I bought this laptop a week or two after they came on the market (way back in august) and I haven't had any problems that weren't easily fixable.

Cons: HD speed could be upgraded to a 7200 rpm, but i have captured digital video via firewire w/o any dropped frames. Speakers suck, no volume whatsoever, my friends $500 dell laptop has better speakers. Mouse is useless because bluetooth mod doesn't keep settings for detected hardware so you need to redetect it and all ever reboot which is retarted. headphone jack doesn't output much power, but since i bought my bose acoustimass2 headphones the volume hasn't been any problem,

Other Thoughts: FAT32 partitioning is horrible, it will cause random lockups requiring full reboot. I have Norton Partition Magic, just reformatted partitions from fat32 to NTFS w/o any problem and never had to re-install anything. Worked like a champ ever since the reformat. buy an extra battery for it. I get 3 hours under normal use. When vid editing or playing high perfomance games I get between 1 and 2 hrs of battery.

3 out of 5 eggsOne week later

Pros: Somewhat unique looks.

Overall physical design quality.

Loaded with hardware features.

AMD 64-bit CPU with a potential to provide 64-bit drivers for Windows XP 64-bit (currently available on 4006 model).

Cons: 1680x1050 for 15.4" TN is a real pain. Can't use large fonts because as a web designer, I need to see the average, what others see. Can't use lower rez because I ablsolutely hate the blur LCDs produce under non-native resolutions. Acer compensated for this by enforcing large fonts and listing them as normal in properties.

Email support slow, phone unhelpful at 1-800-816-2237. Claimed their version of Windows XP Pro SP2 provided on recovery CDs can not be considered the same operating system as a generic Windows XP Pro SP2, therefore they will not support it. Drivers are available on the web, but you will have trouble with Bluetooth. Windows will continue recognizing BT as a New hardware Acer Module and Searching for update on the Internet solves the problem.

Recovery CDs are a Ghost image (3 in total, so much for the defalut DVD drive?). HDD must be pre-formatted as FAT32 for them to work.

Rough, low resolution junk for a mouse.

Feed-through-a-crack Apple-style CD-ROM

Other Thoughts: All the effort they put into styling, they should've put elsewhere: many aspects of the laptop are immature. Seems like the laptop was built for a rich underage kid. You should buy this laptop only if two conditions are met:
1. You happen to be young or have perfect vision to deal with the native resolution or don't care about large/blurry fonts.
2. You are a computer dummy and don't mind sticking to the default configuration or a laptop guru who never needs support.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it

Pros: I love ATI and I love AMD. Its definatly fast, havn't benchmarked it yet, but I can tell its going to be better than most of the comps in my dorm. Currently, I'm on spring break on a road trip to Colorado. I love the WiFI button because when we pull into a gas station or bigger city, I can connect easily to the internet. Loads up fast and plays DVDs very well. Along with my graphics design programs, it can do all the video editing you can toss at it. Plays HALF-LIFE 2 very nice. AND YOU CAN'T BEAT THE LOOKS OF THIS THING!!!!!!

Cons: So far, I havn't really had it long enough to make a TOTAL con check. People have said that the bluetooth mouse is a bit sketchy, and I will have to agree, but a little playing around with the settings and I was able to get it to a setting where it was completly useable. The speakers as well are a bit on the low end side. Even with head phones its still a bit on the quite side. (note: i listen to LOUD music, so it is possible my hearing is going bad :P).

Other Thoughts: Overall, if you have the money to drop on it, this is the one to buy.

I love it.

(P.S. i bought this at $1995.00....a week ago... i JUST saw it dropped to $1915.00.... buy it up now!)

4 out of 5 eggshot off the press

Pros: Great hardware (DVI + VGA out, AMD CPU). Non-glossy scren. Loaded with hardware features.

Cons: Windows XP comes under two conditions: 1. you keep the original hard drive and 2. you don't need to have windows installation options. Recovery is a ghost off a CD, which will give you a FAT32 disk, which will not boot unless it's the original hard drive. Also, resolution seems a bit too high for the screen size.

Other Thoughts: The idea was to get a laptop for work: as fast as laptops come with acceptable limitations. So I took the original hard drive out to replace an old 4200RPM in another laptop. Put a new 7500RPM in. And here are the limitations: if you plan to reinstall windows, make sure you have your own generic copy. Provided recovery CDs are a ghost and will result in "no operating system found" if used.

5 out of 5 eggsha ha ha HA

Pros: I own this comp and laugh at my roomie who paid 2500 for an alien***** that overheats constantly and has no graphics card.

This comp performs well, plays every game I've tried, good benchmarks, high res screen, great features relative to price, battery life: 2:20-3:15 hours depending on settings/tasks. Portable.
Sturdy. Dropped mine 4.5 ft, (accident), still runs without problem, no damage.
3rd fastest computer on my dorm floor (other 2 are desktops).

Cons: Headphone jack on front
mouse is a bit inconsistant
speakers a little weak.

Other Thoughts: don't feel like I need a desktop after getting this.
Note: Laptop keyboard fkeys.:
(I noticed some friends laptops were missing some of these):
Switch to external moniter
turn of screen backlight
turn of touchpad
several others

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: Almost everything about this computer is a pro. Great graphics, runs Half-Life 2 and F.E.A.R. very quickly and nearly flawlessly. This computer is definitely a looker, took it into a coffee shop and immediately got a few looks and questions. Curved keyboard takes a bit to get used to, but it works well. Wireless range is exceptional.

Cons: Bluetooth mouse is a little unresponsive, but if its plugged in with the charger, its not too bad. Gets a little hot when its being taxed. Slot load DVD drive gets a little noisy, almost sounds like its grinding your disc to shreds as you insert it in the drive. Vibrations throughout the whole computer when I upload my music, gets a bit annoying after a while. Hard drive needs to be changed from FAT to NTFS, but thats easily done.

Other Thoughts: After months of research, I decided on this gem. I considered dropping close to 1k more on an Alienware, then realized the bang for the buck that this laptop brings. Its great for any college student like myself, its powerful, but it is great for general functionality. I'd recommend it over and over again.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: The lap top is amazing. It is incredibly fast and the graphic capibilies surpases what I expected. The screen is very large and has no dead pixels.

Cons: The speakers could definity be better... and the bluetooth mouse is horrible, but I already expected as much thanks to the other reviews.

Other Thoughts: This is the best lap top that I have ever seen. I am glad I spent the extra money on it. Ferrari is the best.
