Great Laptop for the Price
- Pros: HP as a company makes some of the best laptop designs and features I've ever seen. I am a big fan of the HP Pavilion. The laptop itself has great style, features and is overall a great laptop. The price is great for a reliable product you can trust. I love the glossy screen and Vista works great when you turn off the User Access Control and with 3GB of memory it's powerful. You can also play some games like World of Warcraft which works perfectly fine.
- Cons: The Speakers isn't that loud on max so if your watching a movie you might want to put on headphones. The mouse pad isn't the greatest but I have USB mouse most of the time so it doesn't matter.
- Other Thoughts: I would definitely purchase more HP laptops from Newegg.Com ... Been with NewEgg for over 7 years now.
monitor died, sniff
- Pros: Attractive looking.
- Cons: After owning this laptop for two weeks, the monitor died. We are sending it in to HP. Will keep updated as to what happens with HP.
- Other Thoughts: little disappointed that the monitor stopped working after 2 weeks. The battery life isn't that long as well. But it is pretty to look at.
- Pros: The large RAM, fast processor, and copious hard drive space are more than sufficient to keep the hardware-hungry Vista running smoothly. The value for it was excellent, too- I definitely shopped around for a good price before selecting this computer. I also really like the convenience of the memory card slot, and the hard Brightscreen versus the delicate regular LCD screens. It also comes with a free pair of decent earbuds and a remote control. Additionally, it's a sleek, attractive computer to have sitting on your desk. All in all, I'm happy.
- Cons: The hard drive has fewer RPMs than most of the other hard drives available, which might be a problem for heavy computer users, though it certainly functions fine for how I use it. It does not come with system restore CDs- you have to make your own from a HP Restore partition on your hard drive or order them from HP. They bill the built-in restore partition as a "convenience," but without CDs, you are in trouble if the hard drive dies.
I wasn't a big fan of the USB/Ethernet ports being on the left side of the computer because the wires then take up desk space. And I think there should be more than two USB ports, since printers automatically take up one.
- Other Thoughts: Vista isn't as bad as its reputation; however, the computer came pre-loaded with some annoying Widgets that border on spyware: WildTangent games, shortcuts to websites, Yahoo toolbar, the option to install Weather Bug. I spent the first hour I owned the computer removing the bonus Vista Gadgets and Quick Links. Also, the HP Total Care Center is kind of unnecessary, since I don't need TWO separate programs reminding me of my Wi-Fi connections or my battery life.
Vista does incorporate some of the missing goodies (like customizing your sound scheme, and fun fonts) that Windows 98 included but XP did not, and Vista also very clearly requires permission before installing anything, like Linux. I'm also undecided on the built-in touchpad scrollbar, as I keep bumping it by mistake while typing and making my page scroll around accidentally, though I've used it and seen how useful it can be. The no-latch lid is nice too, but it makes it a bit too easy to slam it by mistake.
