2.5 years and still running great
Pros: Easy to install. Great price for the power. Running stable at 5GHz using cooler 9SIA4S82VE5282 and a few OC tweaks.
Cons: none
Will not last long after warrentee
Pros: Good price. Great for simple desktop audio. Mechanical volume and separate bass adjust knobs. Sub-woofer can be unplugged and not used if desired without cutting any cables.
Cons: Sub started to rumble after about 1.4 years of moderate desktop use (had to unplug the sub and use the speakers them selves), then the regular speakers started to crackle obnoxiously after another 0.2 years.
Overall Review: This item now resides in my scrap bin after only 1.6 years or service.
Okay keyboard
Pros: All keys still work after 2.5 years of use. Haven't found a modern BIOS that couldn't recognize it.
Cons: Function key where left ctrl should be.
Makes things Tidy
Pros: These do what they need to do, tie stuff down and keep them down.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Have not had even one be flawed in manufacturing.
990FX R2.0
Pros: Its Asus. Bios with many bells and whistles (hard OS is a cinch, recovery from bad OS build with press of a button).
Cons: Not a fan of the angled SATA mounts. Prone to bad connection if not using a locking SATA cable. 2 of the 6 SATA ports don't recognize every type of device through BIOS. Very difficult to get Crossfire to be recognized at pcie2.0 x16 for the second GPU board. You need to finagle the board many times with many reboots to get good contact on the tan x16 slot further from the CPU. Onboard audio failed after 1 year. Onboard LAN port burned out after 1.8 years. (literally saw arching of surface mount caps) There must be some sort of grounding issue, that or just sloppy soldering to cause the failure of the on board peripherals.
Overall Review: I have all my items plugged through a surge protecting power-strip. Too lazy to do a warrentee call on this for the failed peripherals since I was able to just put a new audio card on a expansion slot and use a USB3.0 to LAN dongle to make up for the failed hardware. Who knows how much down time Ill have while waiting for them to fix this or confirm that the hardware is failed and send me a new one.
Pros: Works great, no loose fittings
Cons: mundane looking
Fast shipment. Good product.
