Most Favorable Review

Excellent price/performance ratio

Maxtor OneTouch III 160GB USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Drive T01E160 (STM301603OTAB01-RK)
Maxtor OneTouch III 160GB USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Drive T01E160 (STM301603OTAB01-RK)

Pros: On-off switch. Software has lots of options. Very low price. Cables are (barely) long enough. Case is handsome, feels sturdy. Quiet operation.

Cons: USB is only interface. No case fan. Only 160 gigabyte. Software only for Windows 2000/XP. (Can be upgraded to Vista, but no Linux.)

Overall Review: Works as advertised. Does a good job at backing up, but is slow compared to eSATA or Firewire 800. Very good budget solution. Super fast shipping from New Egg, as usual.

Most Critical Review

For good transfer speeds, you have to know what you are doing.

WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN
WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN

Pros: Low Price for 3 Terabytes. Attractive Design Small Form Factor USB port on back can be used with a hub to control up to 6 external drives for backup of main hard drive and/or storage expansion.

Cons: Transfer speeds are very, very slow using windows explorer to drag and drop. And it has nothing to do with my network, a 6 year old NAS made by Maxtor plugged into the same router is at least 4 times as fast as this Western Digital. Several other reviews report the same problem, so it is definitely a flaw of the drive. That being said, I am now teaching myself how to use FTP in hopes that I obtain the transfer speeds this drive is supposed to be capable of. Western Digital should be more forthcoming about this shortcoming in their product.

Overall Review: I have a USB 3.0 hub plugged into the back of this little NAS with 4 hard drives attached, quadrupling my storage capability for a low cost.

Excellent Product

NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal Wi-Fi Internet Adapter Wireless 802.11b/g/n Ethernet Port / Connect Wifi to LCD-TV, Game Console and Blu-ray Player
NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal Wi-Fi Internet Adapter Wireless 802.11b/g/n Ethernet Port / Connect Wifi to LCD-TV, Game Console and Blu-ray Player

Pros: Very small size. Can be powered by USB. Easy setup using WPS or web browser. Can be used to create a wireless switch.

Cons: Under periods of heavy usage it can run very warm.

Overall Review: I use this in my home office, which is in the attic 30 feet and 2 floors above the router, with floors and a wall impeding the signal. I connected this little device to a 4 port gigabit switch, creating a wireless switch. There are 2 desktop computers and a network multifunction printer connected to the switch. This device has never given me a minute of trouble, and it has run 24/7 for over 2 years in an attic whose temperature has exceeded 100 degrees many times in the summer months, and dropped below 35 degrees in winter months. I have it 2 feet away from any other electronics, sitting on a shoe box, so it has plenty of ventilation. Bandwidth is excellent, I have downloaded files from the internet at over 100mbs, and it does not bottleneck file transfers across the network. What is even more amazing to me is that the area I live in is saturated with wireless networks-at least 8, yet I detect no interference. All in all , an excellent product.

Sooo Slooow...

WD 2TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0020HWT-NESN
WD 2TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0020HWT-NESN

Pros: Attractive Very Low Price Small Form Factor Runs Cool USB-3 Port can be used with a hub to control up to 6 hard drives. Remote access over internet.

Cons: Everything happens so slowly as to render the device useless. Software is lacking necessary features.

Overall Review: I can't say it often enough, this NAS is between 5 and 10 times slower than the 6 year old Maxtor Shared Storage 2 it was supposed to replace. When I right clicked a folder and clicked on properties, it took 10 minutes for the drive to report there was 40GB of data. Click on a folder and wait 20 seconds for it to open. Transfer rates crawl along at 500KB/S on my gigabit network with all new routers, switches, and cabling. Since the device is technically 'working', can I even send it back? Bummer

Just what I needed.

Rosewill RHB-520 10-Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub - Retail
Rosewill RHB-520 10-Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub - Retail

Pros: Low price for a quality 10 port powered hub. Last 4 ports can be switched off to ensure adequate power to the first six. The size and shape are exactly what I was looking for. There is adequate spacing between the ports for bulky connectors.

Cons: The LEDs are painfully bright, but mine is in a cabinet, so no big deal.

Overall Review: I purchased this hub to mount in a confined space inside a computer armoire along side a new Dell XPS tower, which has 4 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports on the back panel. I have a lot of stuff to connect, and I did not want to use the 3.0 ports, I want to save them for external hard drives. This hub works perfect for me. I have a printer, a webcam, 2 USB 2.0 external hard drives, an external fax-modem, and a 128GB flash drive plugged in with no problems after 1 full day. Since most of these devices are self powered, I'm not worried about current draw through the ports. I haven't tested the throughput of the External hard drives to see if the hub is a bottleneck, but casual observation leads me to believe it's OK. The 4 2.0 ports on the back of the computer tower now have the keyboard, the mouse, this USB hub, and another powered hub that sits just below my monitor for flash drives. Finally, a place to plug everything in, with plenty of expansion for the future.

Super Easy

Comments: Windows XP recognized it and loaded drivers automaticaly.Quick and smooth, unlike the piece of junk Highpoint Rocket 100 I bought earlier here. You get what you pay for. Promise kept thiers, Highpoint left we with nothing but frustration.
