Nice option.

Microsoft A9O-00007 WinXP Media Center Infrared Remote Control
Microsoft A9O-00007 WinXP Media Center Infrared Remote Control

Pros: This is affordable, capable and does just what it is supposed to. I'm using it with Vista Ultimate and it navigates through Media Center extremely well. I understand that the Microsoft Remote keyboard (ZV7-00009)uses the IR receiver as well... sounds like a good pairing.

Cons: I wanted to mount the IR receiver inside my case and connect it to a motherboard header. What a pain. They used those tiny torx screws to hold it together. I had to pry it's housing open to get to it's guts.

Overall Review: After struggling with the IR receiver, I got it installed and connected. It runs great and has a fast response time. I'll probably replace it with one of my other remotes though. I believe it uses an RCA code. My Build: Vista32Ult running on an EVGA 112-CK-NF77-A1, E6750, SAMSUNG HD501LJ HD, 4GB of Mushkin DDR2800, SeaSonic M12 SS-500HM, a Samsung SH-S203N DVDR and (2) SAPPHIRE Theatrix 650 PROs all in a nMEDIAPC 288BA w/VFD running at a cool 31 degrees on stock cooling. Using it on a Sammy HL-T6187S with this remote and all I can say is WOW!!

OCZ EliteXStream OCZ800EXS-B 800 W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
OCZ EliteXStream OCZ800EXS-B 800 W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Affordable

Cons: Everything else. It failed on me 2 months after it was installed. If I could give it no eggs, I would.

Overall Review: This was my first OCZ purchase and likely my last.

Cool Form Factor, Poor Performance

PNY Micro Swivel Attaché 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Gray) Model P-FDU4GBSV-EF/GRY
PNY Micro Swivel Attaché 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Gray) Model P-FDU4GBSV-EF/GRY

Pros: Neat design, small size4

Cons: Only worked for 3 months during occasional use. Slow. An Xbox 360 won't allow these to be used as USB storage due to their low write speed.

Overall Review: Stay away from these and go with a real thumb drive like a Mushkin Mullholland. $.50 per file transfer isn't a good price/performance ration.

Decent enough...

DANE-ELEC 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Capless (Red) Model DA-ZMP-04G-CA-R3-R
DANE-ELEC 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Capless (Red) Model DA-ZMP-04G-CA-R3-R

Pros: It holds files, has a nice feel to the casing and works as extended memory for an Xbox, albeit a slow performance option. Works well as a bootable USB device. handy to keep in the vehicle for that unforseen need to transfer smaller files.

Cons: None really. I haven't had it break or anything. I suppose that if I used it as a dog toy it might.

Overall Review: I didn't buy this model, but a rebranded (Duracell) version of it. I was in a bind and bought it at a drug store for almost twice this price. I have used this for various bootable images (Windows Home Server, Ubuntu, BackTrack, etc.) without incident. When the Xbox update was released, allowing the use of USB flash drives, this one passed the test, but warned of diminished performance. I have 3 PNY Micro Swivel drives that didn't make the cut for this purpose. I played Fallout 3 for 155 hours with all the expansions, my saves and my profile running off this drive.

Barely makes the grade.

SanDisk Cruzer 8GB Flash Drive (USB 2.0 Portable) Model SDCZ36-008G-A11
SanDisk Cruzer 8GB Flash Drive (USB 2.0 Portable) Model SDCZ36-008G-A11

Pros: I bought this for use with an Xbox as extended memory. SanDisk is the manufacturer of the Official Xbox memory drives so I thought it would be comparable. I was wrong, but see below...

Cons: When I tested this unit in both Pro and Arcade Xbox models, it would pass the test, but warn me that the performance isn't up to par. It's usable, but I don't plan on pushing The white slide has an amber LED in it. It's way too bright and never goes out. It's always flashing, pulsing or steady. Highly distracting when playing Xbox in a dark room. It's brighter than every other component in my A/V rack. I'll eventualy take a shot at concealing it I guess.

Overall Review: It limps along for it's intended purpose I suppose, but I'm certainly no going to buy an Xbox branded model for double the price, or any other SanDisk drive for that matter. I'd recommend the Muskin Mullholland drives for extending an Xbox's memory.

Serves it's purpose

PNY Micro Swivel Attaché 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Silver) Model P-FDU4GBSV-EF/SIL
PNY Micro Swivel Attaché 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Silver) Model P-FDU4GBSV-EF/SIL

Pros: It's small and unobtrusive. I have 3 of these I use for bootable Linux distros, ReadyBoost and/or extended storage on my Dell Mini 10 Netbook. I appreciate that I can swivel the case at 90 degrees when plugging it in to the side, reducing the profile and preventing it getting nudged.

Cons: They're kind of slow. I haven't had one fail, but the sustained write speed I get out of them is about 5MB/sec. The little string they give you is pretty pathetic for keychain use. I just use the metal loop. It is flimsy as well though and one of mine is already stretching out. Worried I'll loose it if I don't come up with something better.

Overall Review: These do not perform fast enough to use with an Xbox as extended memory. None of the three I have passed the Xbox performance test.
