G751 Shin-Etsu - Variant of X23

MASSCOOL G751 Shin-Etsu Thermal Interface Material
MASSCOOL G751 Shin-Etsu Thermal Interface Material

Pros: This is a great thermal grease that really delivers on its specs. I was using Artic Silver 5 on my QX6800 G0 (1.4 voltage and clocked to 3.50 Ghz) I use a Reserator 1 V2 and with the optional fan attached (high), I was seeing numbers like 59,59,66, 66 in SpeedFan 4.34 beta 40. After I applied the material, I saw remarkably lower numbers after three days. For instance: 52,53,59,59 with the tcase at 49. I got these numbers after using Prime95 to "burn in" for a full hour.

Cons: Shin-Etsu should really publish their own guide of How to apply the grease than to rely on forums to provide one. These guides were complicated so I used Artic Silver 5 guide for Quad processors and applied a very thin horizontal line of grease. I am no expert, but I think that technique was adequate based on the numbers that I am seeing. Oh,I used a hair drier to warm the G751 for 45 seconds before I applied it. This seemed to help with the putty quality, but only for a short while.

Overall Review: If you go to the Shin-Etsu site, you will see that the G751 is simply an older version of the famed X23, which is easier to apply. The properties are very similar. It recommended that G751 is used for chipsets and GPUs with corse heat sinks since it "fills in" the spaces better. However,I am using it to cool my CPU. My Zalman WB5 water block has a mirror finish, but I would be lying if I said that it was absolutely perfect.

Mixed Bag For Overclocking

OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR8002GK
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR8002GK

Pros: Heat Pipe keeps RAM from excessive temperatures. I have five hours plus of stability using Prime95 at 800 Mhz and 4-4-4-12 2T timimings.

Cons: I have done a lot of reading on how to overclock this mememory past 800 Mhz. I have even been in touch with their tech support. I have trouble as soon as I hit 816 Mhz. Some people have good luck with it, but I do not.

Overall Review: I have a GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 2.0)(F12 BIOS) with a QX6800 and I have it clocked at 3.6 Ghz (9 x 400 FSB) (1:1 FSB: DDR2). The only way to get a stable run isuse the automatic system voltage.

Gigabyte Has Earned my Loyality

GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Brand new chipset has allowed my SATA drives to take full; advantage of their speed Very to easy to choose an over clock setting and get about 80% of the overclock. Great looking and has lots of options

Cons: I took an egg off because the first board I purchased had a defective memory slot. The board as shrink wrapped and brand new so it shouldn't have had any defects. Newegg allowed me to purchase a replacement and cross shipped so it was able to have the new board on a Friday after I reported the defective one on Wednesday late evening.

Overall Review: I had previously had a competor P55 board (LGA 1156). I really liked it, but Gigabyte has managed to add some very good value and (tasteful) highlights to their boards which outstrips the competor motherboards. I am very glad Gigabyte has moved away from the multi-colored, blue boards of the past and they have really come to the forefront with these latest offerings.

Awesome Refurbishment Job!

Corsair Certified K70 Vengeance Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Cherry MX Red, Red LED Backlit (CH-9000069-NA)
Corsair Certified K70 Vengeance Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Cherry MX Red, Red LED Backlit (CH-9000069-NA)

Pros: The keyboard looks and feels like a brand new keyboard. Wrapped in factor-applied plastic with no finger prints. There are three brightness settings of the keys and one setting turns off the backlight except for the keys, 1,2,3,4,5,6 and WASD and the up, down, and left and right arrows. Pretty nifty.

Cons: None. If you are looking for a great mechanical keyboard for $50.00 off the price, then purchase this one. Totally on me. My typing skills just plunged into the toilet, as I am use to the mushy keys found on laptop. Also, the keys are not completely flat and "wrap" up a bit around your fingertips. The back lighting is a bit bright as I never before had a back lit keyboard. The red light is a bit sinister.

Overall Review: Because this is a refurbishment unit, I purchased the 1 year extended warranty for $7. It may be a waste of money. This is a new keyboard or so close to new that I can't tell. I mean there is no finger marks, or dust, or anything.

ASUS RT-N66U N900 Dual-Band WiFi Gigabit Router
ASUS RT-N66U N900 Dual-Band WiFi Gigabit Router

Pros: This is the second RT-N66U I bought. I upgraded my mother-in-law's network. 1) Very easy setup with Advanced Features 2) Amazing range (2.4 and 5 Ghz) in all corners of split level home 3) Wireless Comcast Blast Speed Matches Wired Speed 4) Industry leading hardware in router which is unmatched (over the top cpu and RAM)

Cons: absolutely none.

Overall Review: I have one of these routers in my own home to provide the full wireless bandwidth I paid for in the Comcast Extreme 105 package (121 Mbs). Placing this router in an unobstructed location is very important. I saw a 42 Mbs jump when I removed this from the HDTV cabniet and placed it up top (7 feet above floor).

Rosewill HDMI Cable 6 ft., Support 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) and HD 1080p, HDMI Cord 6 Feet Black Male to Male, Gold Plated Connectors, Ethernet/Audio Return Channel, RC-6-HDM-MM-BK-3

Pros: Good Quality picture is available through cables Very inexpensive (at $4, it is hard to beat) Shielding is good and length is perfect for my purpose Just works with good clarity!

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: I bought 3 to help help run through a splitter (masscool) and provide input from a BlueRay and a HD DVR. I remember going to BB back in 2007 and seeing HDMI cables for $60 or $80. We have come a long way since those days... or BB just charged a whole lot.
