Most Favorable Review

I'm impressed, it works great.

Pros: It is fairly quiet, for a gas engine. It started right up (put the engine oil in first!), appears easy to service, and the "economy" setting worked as advertised. I tested it with a 1600 watt hair dryer, and the engine automatically sped up and held the load just fine. Easy to get to the oil dipstick, gas filter, and there is a handy little drain screw and hose to empty the carburetor when you plan to store it long term.

Cons: Nothing comes to mind. They even give you a little funnel to put the oil in. Maybe if it included a ground clamp and wire, but I figure I'll use a car jumper cable to clamp the ground screw and then to a ground rod or plumbing pipe.

Overall Review: I liked it's suitcase type case. I think this is just what I need as it is for emergencies only, to run the fridge or the sump pump, the 1600 watts is enough. The one thing I can't comment on is durability since I only tested it for about 30 minutes, then drained the gas and put it in storage until the next ice storm/blizzard (upstate NY).

Most Critical Review

encryption software didn't work so well for me

SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Professional Encrypted USB Flash Drive (SDCZ21-008G)
SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Professional Encrypted USB Flash Drive (SDCZ21-008G)

Pros: Works fine as a flash drive

Cons: The encryption software would not run on my Win 7 Pro machine, tried it on an XP machine and it ran fine. Checked manufacturer's website for any new version, etc. Figured I could not trust it. I will be using another brand flashdrive with built in hardware encyrption, more expensive but those have worked consistently.

Overall Review: It can always be used as a non encrypted drive without problems.

works well, now I have a home made DVR!

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1265 (1196) Hybrid TV Tuner /Video Recorder
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1265 (1196) Hybrid TV Tuner /Video Recorder

Pros: Tuner is more sensitive than my TV's. Has handy signal strength function (using with Windows 7 Pro's built in Media Center). The included remote integrated with Media Center too, I think I had to download some utility from Hauppage to do that. And another remote I bought since the included one is so tiny, works fine (HAUPPAUGE A415-HPG)

Cons: The DVR software with the tuner crashed, etc. But Windows Media Center has worked quite well.

Overall Review: I'm using on a 7 year old Dell Dimension E520 and the recordings are very good in 1080p, but it could not play back without jerky video unless I set my tv output resolution down to 720, which still looks good. At 720 it works smooth, and a lot of tv shows are broadcast at 720. I did buy a $40 antenna, but now I get all the major broadcast stations and PBS fine, and I use HuluPlus for the shows we used to watch on cable. My cable bill went from 140 to 60 for high speed internet only and then $8 for Hulu Plus. Oh, kinda wished I had gotten the two tuner model now. And I bought a larger remote that works with the tuner too, a HAUPPAUGE A415-HPG for $5 on E-b-a_y.
