Known quality, reasonably quiet, should be very reliable and was inexpensivre
Pros: I was considering a WD Gold 128 cache but I read that it was relatively loud. Strange, but when I first placed the Hitachi in my external docking bay it was very loud, but after about half an hour it quieted down considerable. Now that I have in my case, I cannot hear it at all. I have an SSD for my system for speed and I only use the Hitachi to store my music and for a backup. The sequential read and write speeds were both 122.1 MB/s, which is much slower than the WD Gold, but I do not care given that it's quieter.
Cons: I believe this is an OEM hard drive which not covered by the manufacturer. When I entered the serial number it came up as "Invalid serial." But the source I bought it from should cover the warranty for 3 or 5 years.
Overall Review: For the cost, I think it's a bargain and these hard drives have been shown to be very reliable compared to other manufacturers.
Worked intermittently for a few days and now computer will not recognize it.
Pros: Good reviews, but I got suckered.
Cons: Light is hard to see located at the bottom of the unit. I sent this in for a new one, which they sent, but this one too is hit or miss (usually miss) reinserting the hard drive into the enclosure and having the computer recognize it. I'm going back to the Orico. Also, the USB cable is very short. I also have an old USB 2.0 enclosure that works every time but is relatively slow.
Overall Review: I had the cheap ORICO for 3 years of perfect working condition.
Quiet and efficient
Pros: It a Gold Certified unit
Cons: The length of some of the cables is a little short to route them neatly. Only 4 SATA plugs. I had to use a Molex to SATA adapter for my DVD, which isn't that big of a deal if you have some laying around.
Overall Review: I wrote a bad review because the unit and its replacement made a loud whining noise, but believe it or not it was not the unit's fault. They did emit a loud humming noise, but believe it or not, I reflashed the BIOS and the loud whining sound disappeared! I was utterly amazed that the BIOS becoming corrupted could cause a perfectly good PSU to do that. I also tried an FSP Gold Certified PSU and the same thing happened before I re-flashed the BIOS.
SLOW!!!
Pros: Price
Cons: It took over 50 minutes to copy 37GB of data. USB3.0 does not speed things up.
I should have gotten one of these long ago
Pros: It works, and it makes things a lot neater and simpler to use. Instead of plunging and unplugging seven USB 2.0 plugs into the computer there is only one. Just 11 watts of continuous power.
Cons: It does not have any ports especially designed for charging, which other similar units have, and it only has seven ports (which was enough for me).
Overall Review: It's just a USB 2.0 hub, but there are USB 3.0 hubs on the market that use a lot more wattage.
G.Skill a numerous errors, but not this Corsair
Pros: Tested with MemTest86+ and had zero errors after 8 full passes. Also tested using alternative memory testing software also tested with zero errors.
Cons: The heat-spreader is high in height.
Overall Review: Test whatever memory you get, and if it passes chances are the memory will last a lifetime if not abused by overclocking.
