Comments: In my review of the Arita 4X DVD+Rs, I misidentified the previous DVD+Rs I used as Optorite, instead of Optodisc. The Optodiscs I have had, DVD-R 1X and DVD+R 4X with a printable side, mostly work. The Optodisc DVD-R 1X lately have had real problems working in my Panasonic DVD recorder, with a run of coasters in the spindle. Ritek has much better quality control.
Seagate Backup Plus 3TB Prone To Failure
Pros: When it was working, external hard drive was a bargain at $99.
Cons: I have had two Seagate 3TB external drives fail within two months. I bought both from Newegg in November 2012. The problems started when I changed computers, attaching them to a new Dell Windows 7 desktop some two months ago. Maybe the movement was too much but now both hard drives are busted. Using Active@File Recovery software, I managed to transfer most of the data to Seagate 2TB slim USB powered external hard drives. Hopefully these new drives don't conk out after just over two years. I will never buy a Seagate with an odd number of platters again. The new Seagate 2TB slim drives are apparently Samsungs.
Overall Review: Nothing lasts forever.
Problem With Ritek 8X
Comments: The Ritek 8X DVD+R I just tried to burn showed a writing speed of 2.4X, not 8X. I would hold off buying any Ritek 8X until newegg.com has a steady supply. Arita DVD+Rs have the speed printed on them, so there is less of a chance you get the wrong item. I stopped buying DVD+Rs at shop4tech because their Optodisc DVD+Rs had the wrong speed as well as a propensity to become coasters. This order is the first bad order I have had with newegg.com.
Arita 4X DVD+R Worth The Price
Comments: The Arita 4X DVD+R burns at 4.1X on the NEC 1100 burner on my Dell computer. The Optorite 4X DVD+Rs I had used burned at 2.5 speed, even though the spindle label said otherwise. Besides that, the Optorite DVDs I burned had flaws in some cases. From now on, I am sticking with Arita 4X for DVD+R. The price at newegg.com is the lowest I have seen. Too bad these Aritas were not available sooner, so I wouldn't be stuck now with questionable Optorite DVD+Rs.
