Excellent Monitor!
Pros: Absolutely stunning picture, great color variation, dark blacks, bright whites, sleek looking, has actual buttons rather than touch-sensitive
Cons: Blue LED blinks rather brightly when the monitor has no signal, forcing me to turn it off when I sleep rather than just letting the monitor go to sleep.
Overall Review: I bought this monitor without looking at specs very closely, simply because it was a great deal. I've added it to my desk as a second monitor, next to my 22" AOC 2236vw. I was blown away by the AOC's picture quality and completely satisfied with it, until I put this Samsung next to it. The difference is literally night and day. The picture on this monitor is absolutely magnificent.
Cool looking, but...
Pros: - Looks REALLY cool. - Nice side window - 3 fans preinstalled - Thumb screws for opening side panels - Strong enough for its job, provided you're not going to use it for the foundation of a new house.
Cons: I had several problems with mine out of the box. It had a somewhat significant dent on the top left side of the case. The window had minor scuffs and scratches on it. Also, both of the leads pulled off of one of the fans.
Overall Review: It's unfortunate that this case isn't in perfect condition. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't unusable, it just isn't PERFECT. RAIDMAX will only send me a replacement side panel, which fixes one of two issues. They said if I want to exchange it, I have to go through Newegg. Unfortunately, Newegg wants me to pay $20 to ship back a $40 case, just so I can delay my build for two or three weeks while I'm waiting for another one. I guess I'm just going to have to live with the dent, because I'm not going to pay that much to ship it back and I really don't want to delay my build that long.
Absolute Garbage. Waste of Money.
Pros: It works... sometimes. Sort of.
Cons: Let's start with the drivers. Couldn't install the drivers from the included CD on my new build (Windows 7 x64). The application crashed every time at the same spot. The drivers off the Encore website don't work. Honestly I thought the thing was DOA for a while. Tried it in an old XP 32 bit machine, same exact problem. After quite a few curse words, I hooked it up to my build along with a usb wireless adapter. I connected to the internet with the usb adapter, and thank heavens Windows 7 found an appropriate generic driver. However, I've had it for a few weeks now, and it is starting to lose the connection every few minutes, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect to my network each time. My typically-blazing internet speeds seem slower than normal, and I never know if a page is going to load because it drops the connection so often. I hate to be so blunt but this thing is garbage and has no place in my machine.
Overall Review: Unless Encore makes this situation right (hint, hint), I will never buy another Encore product and I suggest that you do the same. You may save yourself ten bucks, but then you might just find yourself in the same boat as me - having paid for this and a more expensive replacement.
Very nice!
Pros: Looks great, works, lossless audio is spectacular, USB 3.0 and SATA III
Cons: - Tried a mild overclock using MSI Auto Overclock Genie, and it blue screened. I had to reset all the settings in BIOS, and the computer still wouldn't boot. I then realized that I had to go into BIOS and re-establish my RAID settings. It then booted, but now I'm terrified to overclock with this board. - Instructions on RAID setup are VERY hard to find. - Poorly-written English always makes me nervous about the quality of the part... so far no problems yet though.
Good Stuff
Pros: - They work, and they look great.
Cons: - Don't do my laundry.
Almost Perfect!
Pros: -Wonderful, vibrant picture -Full 1080p -Lots of options/settings -Better all-around stats than much pricier monitors -Sleek look and feel
Cons: -Need the Rosetta Stone to decipher the menus... -The "A" from "AOC" fell off after a few months. -No HDMI port (I purchased a DVI-HDMI adapter, problem solved!) -Mildly wobbly stand
Overall Review: After owning this monitor for several months, I can point out several cons, but for me (and hopefully everyone else) the most important aspect of a monitor is the picture. Make no mistake about it, the picture on this monitor is fantastic, and far beyond it's price range. Take a look at resolution, contrast ratio, and response time, and compare it to similarly-priced monitors. It just blows them away. People complain about the light at the top/bottom of the screen on dark scenes, but it's minimal. My laptop screen is FAR worse than this monitor. Honestly, when I use this monitor in a dual-screen setup with my laptop, it makes my laptop look bad. The menus are difficult to understand, but play with them long enough and you'll figure them out. The stand is wobbly if the table it's on moves, but here's the secret, don't move it! I was somewhat wary of buying a monitor from a brand I've never heard of, but the warranty told me that AOC really stands behind their products.
