Acer K272HULbmiidp Black 27" WQHD 6ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS DCR 100,000,000:1(1,000:1) Built-in Speakers

Pros: Price - I picked this puppy up for $300 plus a $50 mail in rebate. That's $250 for a 27 inch 1440p IPS display. I figured it a good price to dip my toes into the 1440p world and see how my GPU holds up. A GTX 980 with the games I play peg the needle at 60fps. Except skyrim with 4k textures and a very heavy ENB. With Anti-aliasing off (not even noticable unless you're actively looking for it) i get a solid 55 fps with dips down to 45. In the Bee and the Barb in Riften I drop to 15 fps, but there's something going on there that I haven't pinpointed yet. Packaging - Came very well packaged. Styrofoam surrounded the montior and even a piece of soft foam to fill in the gap between the display and the box. Very nice touch! Display - I'm coming form a Dell 2407WFPb monitor. I tried to get the Dell u3011 but the one I received was broken and had to be sent back. IPS is beautiful. I do miss the deeper blacks of my old VA panel, but this is still an upgrade. The colors are bright and crisp. I don't have a calibration unit so I've eyeballed it to my liking. I am sure there is room for improvement there. The Matte finish is perfect. I'm not a fan of glossy displays. Sure they look better, but i'm a gamer not a content creator. I'm not interested it seeing my ugly mug looking back at me during loading screens. Ports and included cables - Came with all ports and cables you could need. DisplayPort, and a dual-link DVI cable. Even came with an audio cable in the rare event you may actually need/want to use the speakers on the display. Menu - Easy enough to navigate. I only use 1 input, so I never need to change inputs. Everything is easy to understand and I feel there are enough options available to make all necessary changes to whatever you may need.

Cons: Stand - leaves a lot to be desired. It works. I've used monitors with this type of stand for years before, but they aren't really good and look pretty janky. Also there is no sort of cable management options with the stand. So your cables will just sort of have to hang there unless you engineer something with velcro or twist ties or whatever. This monitor does have VESA mount capabilities, which works perfectly with the VESA adaptor plate I have for my dell monitor stand. Just upgrading the stand to an old Dell stand I had left over from work makes this montior look professional grade. Buttons - They're buttons. They're not excellent, but they're not bad. They work, but after using the u3011 for a day I really liked the capacitive buttons it had.

Overall Review: Bezel - It's piano ultra gloss black. It looks nice until you touch it. then fingerprints stick. You don't notice it ina dark room as the panel is so bright, but when the lights are on or if the blinds are open and the sun is up, you'll notice it. Doesn't bother me, just something to point out. Conclusion I dig this monitor. If it goes on sale again for $250 i'd like to pick up another one for the office. Or maybe another 2, just because 1080p is so last decade.

Most Critical Review

This is NOT SimCity 5.

SimCity Limited Edition PC Game
SimCity Limited Edition PC Game

Pros: The game looks great. The camera controls are pretty intuitive. The interface is good, Things are off tho the side and on the bottom leaving a lot of city viewable space. I like watching the cars or the sims move around the city, It's cool that they're kinda real and not fake like they were in SC4. The Region Play is pretty awesome.

Cons: The game is essentially broken. Cars take the shortest path to the destination, which leads to a planning nightmare. The bus system is broken. Often you'll have 6 buses going to the same bus stop. They kinda cluster together. Firetrucks will all go to the same fire. Annoying when you've got more than 1 fire in your city. Population is Fudged. I understand why they did this, but there was no need for that. Sometimes I build a trade depot and set it to import something. The trucks will come, but nothing gets added to it's inventory. Money isn't taken out, but it's annoying that I have a bulldoze it and rebuild it to fix it. Always Online DRM. It'll suck when they shut their servers off. City size. Seriously Maxis? You basically get the Small city size from SC4 and that's it. Personally, the small size wouldn't bother me as much if the cities were nested next to each other. It sucks building a city up, then looking across vast meadows to another city full built up. I want those city borders to border each other. It's almost too easy. Does not take long to max out a city. I've read that you don't even need commercial or industrial zones to have a successful city. Another thing I feel is broken about this game.

Overall Review: This game has the potential to be good. It can't be awesome. It just can't. SC4, with it's massive regions, and massive city sizes, and terraforming abilities, was awesome. SC4 also had a major modding community that is still active and the mods for SC4 are outstanding. This one, with it's always online DRM, probably won't have mods. Or if they do, EA will make you pay for them. Buy this game at your own risk. but do not buy it looking for the next great thing in SimCity. This is NOT SimCity 5.

Took a chance, it worked

3 eggs due to first one being DoA.

ASRock Fatal1ty B450 GAMING-ITX/AC AM4 AMD Promontory B450 SATA 6Gb/s Mini ITX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Pros: works with my new 3600x. I'm coming from Intel and didn't ha e an older am4 chip lying around. I know there are options, but I'd rather not be bothered. BIOS is intuitive. I was previously on an ROG board and I felt this one was close enough to this. Enabling xmp was cake. Worked with my 32GB 3200 Oly ram right away. Black board to go in my black case to match my black soul. JK. I'm a ginger. I haven't got one of those.

Cons: Cons: first one was dead on arrival. That's annoying when you're in Alaska and have to wait extra long for shipping. I will say the return process was easy and the replacement worked out the box. But I had to wait extra long and that sucked. First board had 2 capacitors loose on it. Likely why it was dead.

Overall Review: I'll recommend this. As long as you don't get a dead one you're fine.. The BIOS has good features.

Outstanding

PNY GeForce GTX 980 4GB CG EDITION, VCGGTX9804XPB-CG
PNY GeForce GTX 980 4GB CG EDITION, VCGGTX9804XPB-CG

Pros: 2560x1440p excellence. I max out all my games, but I don't play heavy games with it. Skyrim with a Heavy ENB and 4k textures and all the graphics mods I can find. It runs at 45-55 fps outdoors. I have grass turned WAY up and in some places it'll drop down to 35-40 fps. Not good, but with grass at default fps is right at 60 (higher buy i only have a 60Hz monitor). I've overclocked it over 1500 MHz and to 8000 MHz. +225 and +525 without even touching the voltages. This card is a beast. Reference Design. I have an ncase m1 so i need to keep the heat out of my case as much as I can. With my custom fan profile i keep the card right at 78 Degrees. I like the reference design look. It's quiet enough for my purposes. I have used the DVI port when I had a 1200p monitor. I now have 1440p and i use the displayport. Not much to say about the ports that can't be said by reading how many of what they have.

Cons: Price. These have been out almost a year now and the price is still right where they were at release. luckily, the 980 ti dropped and it's easier to find used 980's if you want to SLI them.

Overall Review: Bought this about a year ago. I got it at the big river in Brazil website because it was $550 and they were sold out on Newegg. I love this card.

Works and is pretty awesome.

Logitech K400 2.4GHz Wireless Touch Keyboard
Logitech K400 2.4GHz Wireless Touch Keyboard

Pros: small, lightweight, and works very well for it's purpose.

Cons: The right shift is directly right of the up arrow. I constantly hit the up arrow instead of the right shift. I'm a fast typist and I have having to stop to correct my up arrowings. Another issue I have is with the left mouse button. When I hold it and drag a window, or do other tasks that require the mouse button held down, I often find that it un-clicks the mouse for me. the button on the top left works much better, and I often find myself having to use that one instead of the trackpad one.

Overall Review: This keyboard is great overall. I used it for my home theater PC, and now i'm using it on my desktop/gaming rig. I wouldn't recommend using the trackpad for gaming. It'll work just fine, but it gets uncomfortable after a while. use a real mouse or use a controller like I do. Wish it was backlit or illuminated, but that would drain the battery so I understand why it's not.
