Excellent performer for the price

ECS MS200 Intel Socket LGA1156 Intel H55 Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System
ECS MS200 Intel Socket LGA1156 Intel H55 Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Price, Price, Price ($79 AR). Add to that Compact size, quiet fans, a DVD drive included, and lots of inputs. The HDMI output makes this unit perfect for a HTPC build. Although others have complained about the fans being noisy I have not had any issues with mine. They stay on low speed pretty much all the time and are all but inaudible unless you have the TV off and are within 3 feet of the unit.

Cons: Ultra bright power and HDD LED's. This can be fixed by inserting a series resistor into the LED power wires which are extremely easy to access because you have to pull their connector loose when you remove the front panel fro mthe unit during the build. I used two 7k ohm 1/8 watt resistors and cut the blue wire and inserted one resistor then I cut the white wire and inserted the other resistor. The wires are connected to the front panel and are a breeze to cut and modify. This mod resulted in a drastic drop in light output. I would say the front panel LED's are now about 30% of their original intensity. Bright enough to know the unit is on during the daytime and plenty bright at night. If you need more light output you could try installing a 6k 1/8 watt resistor instead.

Poor speed

Actiontec PWR511K01 AV500 Powerline Network Adapter Kit, Up to 500Mbps
Actiontec PWR511K01 AV500 Powerline Network Adapter Kit, Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Cheap and they do connect with each other!

Cons: You get what you pay for! Connection speed is 12 - 16 Mbps which is worse than my wifi connection and worse than my 5 year old 200 Mbps AC adapters. Adapters were only used for a hour or so at a time, but they were getting quite warm. As other reviewers have stated, this is likely to cause issues down the road.

Overall Review: Pure junk! Returning My first and last Actiontec purchase. I bought these 500Mbps adapters to replace a pair of 5 year old Zyxel 200Mbps adapters that had recently quit working. My 5 year old AC adapters were capable of 40 -50 Mbps in the exact same AC sockets. I need a reliable 25 Mbps connection for streaming from my Silicondust tuners, these adapters were not even capable of that. I tried moving the second adapter around to different AC sockets throughout the house and the only thing that affected the speed was when the second adapter was installed in a socket on the alternate phase of power in which case the download speed dropped to around 4 - 6 Mbps. Do yourself a favor and buy some quality adapters from a good company. To the manufacturer, don't bother replying, these have been sent back for a refund.

Rosewill - Black & Silver, 0.8mm SGCC Steel Slim Micro ATX Computer Case with ATX12V Flex 300W Power Supply - R379-M

Pros: Lots of space, case quality seems good. Plenty of room to install extra drives if you know what you are doing.

Cons: Laser bright power LED and bright flashy red HDD LED. Case fan is also loud. These issues can however be corrected (See below). I do not like how the CD drawer does not stay closed if the case is used in a horizontal configuration. This forces you to use the case vertically, I would not have bought this case if I knew this beforehand. I will deduct one egg for this.

Overall Review: To dim the power button, pull the green wire Pled+ wire and cut it about 3 " back from the black MB connector. Insert a 11k ohm 1/2 Watt or larger resistor in this wire. For the overly bright HDD LED, cut the red HDD connector wire likewise about 3" back from the black connector and insert a 7.5k ohm 1/2 watt or larger resistor. These changes will dim the LED's quite well for use as a HTPC. For the overly noisy case fan, cut the red wire going to the case fan and insert a 100 ohm 1/2 watt or larger resistor. This will drop the case fan to approx. 1100 rpms and quiet it down substantially. Be sure to insulate all of the bare wires, heat shrink is best but electrical tape will work in a pinch. These changes make this case a much better HTPC case option.

Kingston SSDNow V+100 2.5" 96GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SVP100S2/96G
Kingston SSDNow V+100 2.5" 96GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SVP100S2/96G

Pros: Low cost, paid less than .80/gb AFTER REBATE. Almost 1 year old and still running fine. Much faster than the 640 gb WD black drive it replaced.

Cons: Speed is not as good as SSD models in the similar price class. Wish I had bought 2 of them when the prices were low.

Overall Review: Hard to complain about the speed when many of the SSD competitors have horrible reliability issues.

Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model KVR1333D3S9/2G

Pros: Works great in my Asus 1215N netbook, stable when overclocked.

Cons: None other than the free (SLOW TO SHIP) option.

Overall Review: Newegg's FREE SHIPPING has started to wear on me. I have been a Newegg customer since the late 90's. One of my favorite things about shopping with Newegg is their QUICK SHIPPING time. This has gone away with their "FREE SHIPPING" option. Newegg now takes 48 - 72 hrs just to get your item out the door. This is a ridiculous amount of time just to ship an item and in my opinion is done on purpose to try and force people to pay extra for the upgraded shipping option. Its funny, when I order from Newegg's competition they all ship within 24 hrs even when I use the FREE SHIPPING option....

Great performance, beware of the HDD.

ASUS Eee PC 1215N-PU17-BK Black Intel Atom D525(1.80GHz) Dual Core 12.1" WXGA 2GB Memory 250GB HDD NetBook
ASUS Eee PC 1215N-PU17-BK Black Intel Atom D525(1.80GHz) Dual Core 12.1" WXGA 2GB Memory 250GB HDD NetBook

Pros: Excellent overclocking abilities using SETFSB and Nvidia tools software. Out of the box performance in 3D Mark 2006 = 2650 3D Marks. With an OC'd CPU at 2.1 ghz and video card bumped up faster than GeForce 305M clock settings my 3D Marks are now at 3225. CPU marks went up from 775 to > 1100 OC'd to 2.1 ghz.

Cons: BIG NEGATIVE- Stock 250 gb HDD is SLOW. Even worse, Asus did not make the HDD accessible from the bottom of the laptop. You have to completely disassemble this laptop and the way they designed it you are just about always going to break some of the little plastic tabs that hold it together. I am quite experienced at working on computers and I took my time disassembling it and still broke a tab. Also there is a "Warranty void if removed" sticker inside that you will have to break to get to the HDD. If I had known that Asus did this I would NOT have bought this laptop. I should have researched this better, as such I will not give it a negative rating due to this, but be warned. After installing 7200 rpm 500gb Travelstar HDD my boot and load times have dropped by > 25%.

Overall Review: To those that have said you cannot switch between graphics adapters on this laptop, you don't know what your doing! First go and download the latest Nvidia drivers and load them on your laptop. Then right click on the desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel. Select "Manage 3D settings" and select the "Global settings" tab. Now use the drop down menu to select which graphics processor you wish to use. This is where you can set it to AUTO as well. When I switch my GMA3150 graphics ON my 3D MARKS drop from 3225 to 180 so I know its working.
