Patriot Warp PE32GS25SSDR 2.5
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Nice but too small 11/12/2009

This review is from: Patriot Warp PE32GS25SSDR 2.5" 32GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Nice fast drive. I really enjoyed having an operating system on a very fast first. I will find a good use for this drive doing something else because it is blazing fast.

Cons: Even with Windows 7 diverting much of what is installed to other drives there seem to be programs that insist on taking up parts of the OS drive. I spend a lot of time hunting them down and cleaning up temp files. I think it's just too small for an OS only drive.

Other Thoughts: When I first installed Windows 7 it took up 17 gigs and this drive was performing great.
I have done my homework on what tricks to try to reduce what goes to the C drive but I might very well be missing some.

Patriot Warp PE32GS25SSDR 2.5

Pros: Drive is really fast and installs just like any other drive on my computer. I love it. I run Far Cry 2 on extreme settings with the configuration listed below. It is perfect!!

Cons: I try to limit the drive to only Windows 7. Even after I redirect the documents target to a bigger drive I am still finding that the drive fills up quickly with random stuff. I think an 80 gig would be a minimum recommended size to reduce these issues.

Other Thoughts: My Rig:
MOBO: Asus M3N78 Pro<<poor customer service
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9600
RAM: 6GB Corsair TwinX PC6400 DDR2
OS Drive: Patriot Warp 32GB SATA II 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate 250GB Serial ATA w/NCQ 7200/16MB/SATA-3G
GPU: NVidia GeForce 9500 GT 1GB DDR2 Graphics Card

ASUS M4N78 Pro AM3/AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8300 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Product worked well with my Patriot Solid State Drive(SATA mode).

The motherboard pins come with adapters that allow you to hook up your lights and speaker jacks outside of the box and then plug the adapter in. Nice feature.

Worked well with AMD phenom quad-core until it didn't.

Nice placement of fan plugs.

I like the idea of virtual SLI for graphics but it didn't want to work with my card. I followed directions, could see both cards in dev mgr but I never got the advertised icon in the sys tray. I don't fault the mother board for this because the card may have issues with vSli technology?

ASUS is a short name to type when looking up tech support numbers.

Ok, thats all I have for positive on this board.

Cons: These are the details of the system that this board supported until it stopped working.

In my below comment I left off that the first step of tech support was to tell me to replace my power unit. I wasn't even considering that week.

Other Thoughts: CAB- Good point, I actually do a periodic back up of those items. In this case I actually lost only a couple weeks of school work and some pictures from my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. I will get more at the 100th. Hopefully I didn't wipe the sd in the camera. I don't know if Husson University will refund me on my degree based solely on a desperate attempt to not flunk grad school. Or at a minimum, maintain my 3.75 gpa. I'll get back to you on that. ;) If you focus too hard on finding the flaws in what anyone has to say, that is all you will find. My point is that the customer service has failed in six + weeks to resolve my issue. I offered to pay for a new board and get a credit when I returned the board. The said ok, wait for details in 24 hours. It's been 10 days. I think ASUS has the potential to provide good tech support. They have zero follow up and now I'm talking about it.
It took over a month to get me writing mad.
