I can't believe I'm still using floppies

Nippon Labs Black 1.44MB 3.5" External USB Floppy Drive Model USB-FLPPY
Nippon Labs Black 1.44MB 3.5" External USB Floppy Drive Model USB-FLPPY

Pros: Reads & Writes floppies in Ubuntu 9.10 with no probs. Can boot from floppy. This USB Floppy drive mounts as A:\ drive when I booted from my CDROM into FreeDOS.

Cons: Ejector button feels cheap.

Overall Review: Included User's Guide says, "Match the items in this list with the items in USB Portable Diskette Drivepackage [sic]. Ifany [sic] item is missing or damaged, please contact your purchase[sic]." It goes on to list: USB Portable Diskette Drive CD-ROM for driver Users guide (this book) Carrying case Well, everything was included in the package except the carrying case. But I guess you could call the cardboard box the carrying case! LOL 4 eggs for ejector button feeling cheap, not for the "missing" carrying case (because Newegg didn't advertise it as coming with a case).

Issues with Moving Card to Different Slot

Linksys Wireless-N300 PCI Adapter with Dual-Band (WMP600N)
Linksys Wireless-N300 PCI Adapter with Dual-Band (WMP600N)

Pros: Connects to both bands when driver properly installed in Windows 7. Ubuntu 9.10 detected card immediately & did connect to my 2.4GHz network. However, Ubuntu 9.10 did not connect to my 5GHz network.

Cons: Signal strength is weak. Windows 7: Followed instructions to use the install CD before inserting the card. Install software worked ok....detected both of my networks. Decided to move the card to a different slot. Was unsuccessful in getting card to work after moving. Win 7 device manager detected the card, but Linksys driver/software would not detect the card in the other slot. After uninstalling the driver & rolling back to a previous restore point, tried using the Linksys driver/software again. Still would not detect card. Verified the PCI address, etc, that the Windows 7 Device manager reported looked ok. Eventually gave up & moved card back to original slot.

Overall Review: Gave 2 eggs because I felt that the Linksys software should have gracefully allowed me to move the card to a different PCI slot. As others have pointed out, to you can go to the Ralink website & download drivers from there -- there are also mac & linux drivers on the Ralink website. I have not tried installing the ralink linux driver, though.

Lots of whistles

ASUS Maximus III Formula LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Maximus III Formula LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I didn't seat my memory well on the initial build. Used the ROG connection to an XP laptop to read the POST info that pinpointed the Memory prob. Reseated memory and works great. I have the ROG OC Station, and I like having the CPU & Mobo temperature readouts available on the OC Station.

Cons: Needs more internal USB connections -- I later purchased NZXT IU01 to expand my internal USB connections. One of the included SATA cables was bad. 1394 onboard connection is awkward. It's on the bottom corner just under the last PCIe slot. Judging from the included manual it looks like the MoBo used to ship with a 1394/USB expansion that you could put in one of your back-side slots-the idea being that you would connect the 1394 cable & USB cable to the motherboard and having the 1394 connector near the back was convenient?? But....they didn't include a 1394/USB expansion with mine -- they included an eSATA/USB connection. I preferred the eSATA connection, but the cable for the eSATA must travel from the back side all the way around to the front to plug into the SATA ports. Meanwhile, my case has a 1394 port on front and I had to route the cable for it all the way to the back corner 1394 connector.

Overall Review: The metallic red GSkill RipJaws Memory looks great on this Mobo (and works great, too) What's with the blue LED's on the soundcard? Really clashes with my Red/Black build. Like a lot of people...my graphics card renders one of the PCIe slots unusable. I use Linux as my main OS, and only boot into Windows when I have to. The utilities are all geared for Windows Vista, but I knew this when I bought it. The label indicates "Windows 7 Ready", but I did have some issues getting software to work. Includes 1 year Kaspersky AntiVirus, but the version shipped doesn't work on Windows 7.

Solid Power but what's with the cables?

CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750 W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: Can't complain about the power stability. Tested with clamp-on current meter & observed stable output when performing both normal "office" tasks as well as heavy gaming. (Yeah, the gaming used more power but the PSU transitioned smoothly.)

Cons: The cables seem cheap for the price of this unit. The connectors that connect to the PSU are difficult to coax into the sockets. Especially the SATA cables.

Overall Review: Would have traded fancy "Crown Royal"-esque pouch for higher quality cables.

Works great

Pros: Absolutely no problems with this unit. Worked as expected out of the box. Reads/writes CD's & DVD's in Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7 with no problems.

Cons: None.

Works great, looks good

Overall Review: Like all memory, make sure you seat it well.
