Most Favorable Review

Very good receiver, with a few caveats

Sherwood RD-7405HDR 7.1-Channel High Performance A/V Receiver
Sherwood RD-7405HDR 7.1-Channel High Performance A/V Receiver

Pros: Price + HD Radio. Great neutral sound. Allows you to cut-off (i.e., bypass) the tone controls and I have. Not needed with the little B&W speakers in my bedroom.

Cons: No electrical outlet on the back - merely annoying. The included remote is not a universal remote, meaning you need to have two remotes (a 2nd one for a CD/DVD player, for example) or you have to get a universal remote that works with this unit. Haven't done that yet. I'd also complain about the remote being cluttered, but name one that isn't these days? But you can start it up by hitting "tuner" button or "CD" for example and it goes right there, so after setup, you're good to go.

Overall Review: This replaced 30 year old (!) New Acoustic Dimension (the acronym of the brand is disallowed by Newegg) preamp/amp separates, which still work fine, but took up space, had no remote control ability, and needed a separate HD Radio tuner to boot. HD is a must for me -- in Houston, we have a lot of stations here. I was worried that I couldn't live with anything but more (expensive) of my old brand of equipment, but I was wrong, at least after a month of use. Will it last 30 years, too? Don't know and don't care, given the price. NOTE: I've only used this as a stereo receiver, although it has two HDMI inputs and one output, and is 5.1 capable. I got it as the cheapest receiver with an HD Radio, and am quite happy with it.
