Transcend TS0GSJ25R-S 2.5" Red SATA USB 2.0 External Enclosure
Transcend TS0GSJ25R-S 2.5" Red SATA USB 2.0 External Enclosure

Pros: It works fine, as long as you aren't using it.

Cons: Again, it works fine, as long as you aren't using it. On my MacBook, this drive disconnects because there isn't enough power going to the drive when accessing or writing files, even when using both USB ports. I have two 250GB WD External drives that I can power from my USB ports simultaneously. I have no idea how this could draw so much more power.

Overall Review: Used this for my old 320GB internal drive when I updated my MacBook. Not worth an RMA, I'll be replacing it sometime soon.

BELKIN F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router 802.11g
BELKIN F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router 802.11g

Pros: Brilliant router when it works. I have a previous version of this router that has been going strong for at least three years. Easy to use interface, though a little slow with the constant password requests if you have a lot of changes to make.

Cons: I bought another one of these routers for my grandmother's house, and it worked for three days. Took it back to my place, swapped the power supply with the one from my router, and it worked fine. Power supply failed.

Cheap, but not bad.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens

Pros: Note: This lens is the kit lens that comes with the Digital Rebel XSi and a few other Canon cameras. The lens has a decent zoom, and is easy to use, even for beginners. Image stabilization works well and is quiet. Cheap.

Cons: Sometimes this lens has problems focusing in low light. The focus ring is actually the end of the lens, so for beginners it is a little tricky to find. Aperture is not as fast as I would like, but it certainly works for low light photography, as long as you have a good tripod. Plastic construction is cheap, but tough enough for daily use. This lens is very sensitive to dust getting in the zoom mechanism.

Overall Review: My perfect budget DSLR kit would include this lens for everyday use and macro photography, the Canon 55-250 zoom lens, and a 50mm prime lens for low light. Get a set of 58mm filters to protect your lenses, the filters are much easier to clean, and breaking a filter is a LOT cheaper than breaking your new lens.

TOSHIBA Satellite Pro 15.4" Intel Pentium T3400 1GB Memory DDR2 800 Windows Vista Home Basic S300-EZ1511
TOSHIBA Satellite Pro 15.4" Intel Pentium T3400 1GB Memory DDR2 800 Windows Vista Home Basic S300-EZ1511

Pros: Well, for the Pros, it's cheap, it's got a two year warranty, decent battery life and a card reader. Nice laptop for an older person who needs a full-size keyboard and can't handle a small screen, but needs a cheap laptop.

Cons: It lasted less than a week. Unit is currently undergoing RMA approval. Something internal to the laptop, a power delivery issue. The touchpad is terribly small. Fine for a first-time user or someone who just uses a mouse, but switching from my MacBook trackpad to one half the size was pretty frustrating. Unit only has 1GB of ram, which Toshiba thinks is adequate for Vista Home Basic, but I wouldn't buy this computer without getting a memory upgrade to put in it.

Overall Review: Memory is configured as a single 1GB stick, so if you're looking for 2 or 3 gigs for vista, you only need to buy one additional stick. Toshiba Support was easy to reach, and I only had to wait around 5 minutes on hold.

BELKIN F5U233-APL Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Hub
BELKIN F5U233-APL Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Hub

Pros: Simple, works great. I use this on my older PowerMac G4 to allow me to quickly and easily connect hard drives and flash drives for backups after finding out that the USB PCI card I bought does not put out enough power to run a 2.5" HDD. Fast transfer speeds, no hiccups.

Cons: It could weigh a little more or have a non-stick pad on the bottom, just to keep it from shifting around with four USB cables out of the back.

Overall Review: I did not purchase this item from Newegg, but I have owned it for nearly two years.
