Canon PowerShot S5 IS Black 8.0 MP 2.5" 207K LCD 12X Optical Zoom Digital Camera
Canon PowerShot S5 IS Black 8.0 MP 2.5" 207K LCD 12X Optical Zoom Digital Camera

Pros: This is an Excellent camera, especially for the price! It can be used as anything from a simple point-and-shoot (in AUTO mode) to darn near a full-featured SLR (in MANUAL mode) and everything in between, without the price or bulk of a full SLR rig. Takes excellent photos; has enough options that you can do virtually anything you want right there on the camera, and the menus are quite easy to navigate once . The body looks and feels very durable; hand grip is large enough to feel well-supported with one hand. My friend was so impressed with his first experience with it that he went out and bought one for himself!

Cons: My only "complaint" is that the lens cap comes off too easily, but that is a designed feature so the lens does not try to extend in to it (the lens makes it pop off when you turn the camera on)

Overall Review: Just as good as an SLR for all but the most experienced photographers; Canon is a great, reliable brand

Poor Implementation

Aluratek AUCR200 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 SD, miniSD, MMC, RS-MMC, MS, MS Pro, MS Duo and MS Duo Pro. ALL-IN-1 Multi-Media Card Reader

Pros: Small form factor makes it good for portable applications and is the reason I bought this one. The 3" USB cord is great for swapping out cards on USB ports that are somewhat difficult to access (such as on the back of a laptop).

Cons: When I plugged it in to my laptop dock, the computer said that there was a "power surge" on the USB port, and the computer would promptly shut the port off, rendering it useless until I rebooted the computer. After researching the issue, it appears this is not a rare problem with the product. The windows patch I found to fix the issue did not work, and ended up making some of my other USB devices (specifically, my mp3 player) not work.

Overall Review: I ended up buying another product with a thumb-drive form factor from Newegg, and I am very happy with that one.

Aluratek AUCR200 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 SD, miniSD, MMC, RS-MMC, MS, MS Pro, MS Duo and MS Duo Pro. ALL-IN-1 Multi-Media Card Reader

Pros: Compact, straightforward to use. Feels robust enough that I can throw it in a bag or my pocket without worrying about damaging it. SD card seats well.

Cons: Having trouble when I plug it in to the USB port: computer says that there is a "power surge" on the port and that I need to reset the port. It will do this a few times before actually working. Once I get it to "take," however, it works fine.
