Solid Ext Bay

Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0 & eSATA
Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0 & eSATA

Pros: Has worked since the day I got it, I use the eSata port mostly. And mostly with windows.

Cons: none

Overall Review: This has found a few drives that don't want to work but the fault is with the drive not the bay. I've used this as detachable using the controller in native mode. It's never given me a moment a grief and I can pull out and insert drives with out bother.

Tripp Lite USB 3.0 SuperSpeed to SATA III Adapter Cable with UASP, 2.5 in. SATA Hard Drives, Black
Tripp Lite USB 3.0 SuperSpeed to SATA III Adapter Cable with UASP, 2.5 in. SATA Hard Drives, Black

Pros: Small, excellent form factor. Good activity indicator, fairly useful cable length. Brand Naming sold it for me.

Cons: limited USB 2.0 backward compatibility. May or may not work on Linux 3.x kernels with Some drives.

Overall Review: For neat and professional appearance this is a winner if you want it for looks alone. It worked with Windows 7, Windows 10 just fine, though I don't know if I made use of the UASP mode. It read and wrote at 100MB+ to my laptop and computers from a SSD. and around 45MB for a standard laptop HDD. I had trouble trying to use this on 2 SBC Arm computers Asus Tinker Board and a Raspberry Pi 3. I'm pretty good with Linux and Googling and managed to get both running on this adapter. But crashes would happen and always due to data timeouts or worse for the storage device. It was not to my knowledge a problem with power, USB power monitor never showed more than 0.25 amp draw and I was feeding the boards through their GPIO pins with plenty of 5v goodness. After updating and fussing I got the Tinker Board to run solid enough but I had troubles with other components on the USB buss and spent far more time trying to diagnose than was really worth it. Ultimately I found replacement adapters that were only USB 2.0 and from some place in China and these little guys do the business without a hitch. Depending on your use case, the Tripp Lite adapter may work great. (hint for Linux users. Be sure your kernel is 4.x or higher.) Good luck to you.

Nifty kit for jumping into the lock picking hobby.

Transparent Practice Padlock with 12pcs Unlocking Lock Picks Set Key Extractor Tools
Transparent Practice Padlock with 12pcs Unlocking Lock Picks Set Key Extractor Tools

Pros: Acrylic 6 pin lock.

Cons: The quality of the picks are not the best. But can be improved with some fine burnishing. The tension tools are all very close in thickness and are really stiff. The packet for holding everything makes me dig for my tension tools every time.

Overall Review: This kit has a good range of pick types, j hookes, rakes, tension tools. The little pack for holding them works well enough. The acrylic 6 pin lock is a boon to breaking into this hobby. It is not designed as a serious challenge but more for giving the user feed back on how the pins shift and how to judge the depth of your pick to hit specific pins.

Amazing thin gaming laptop

GIGABYTE AORUS 15G XC - 15.6" FHD IPS Anti-Glare 240Hz - Intel Core i7-10870H - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU 8GB GDDR6 - 32GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Win10 Home - Gaming Laptop (AORUS 15G XC-8US2430SH)

Pros: GPU power Check CPU power Check Enough Ram Check This machine runs quiet in most situations even when using it for VR. I use this with Oculus Rift S and it run terrific. The keyboard is wide and that's saying something for a 15" laptop and someone with large hands.

Cons: The power button is very subdued and so far back it can be hard to find in dim lighting.

Overall Review: I bought this laptop to give me more grunt than my previous laptop had. Which could just barely handle the graphic demands of my Rift S headset. This handles it with no troubles save Oculus' software which while not recognizing the GPU being capable in their software. It works with just a floating notice. The wireless is quick and seems to have range with no worries. I will be upgrading the NVME storage as I put more games on the machine. I also use Blender and Krita and GImp a lot and this laptop never gives me a wit of problems and the color of the screen is very sharp and vibrant. No it's not 4K but On a laptop why strain my eyes? There are plenty of IO options to use a larger monitor if needed.

When you need a solid USB2 HDD adaptor

USB2.0 to SATA 22Pin Cable for 2.5inch HDD Hard Drive Solid State Drive
USB2.0 to SATA 22Pin Cable for 2.5inch HDD Hard Drive Solid State Drive

Pros: Works amazingly well with ASUS Tinker Board. Just plug and play (after tweaking your Tinker OS to boot from a USB drive.) It will work fine if you just want it for storage but I wanted it to be used on this board as it's my 3D printer host computer and micro SD's are slooow comparatively. The indicator light is tiny and not rude.

Cons: Worst case, it took longer to arrive than the life span of most fruit flies.

Overall Review: So here's a little story about a Asus Tinker Board and my effort to use it for octoprint with a camera. I purchased a nice Tripp Lite USB 3.0 to SATA III adapter ( https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812329641 ) knowing that good old USB 3.0 will be backward compatible with the USB 2.0 ports on the tinker board. After a half dozen failures, I got the OS to run stably from the drive I was using. Further investigations showed that it was not a power problem. The interface just wants to try to run 3.0 instead of 2.0, this caused data floods intermittently causing lockups on the USB ports. After I got it working and running the OS stably, I would still now and then have my usb camera lockup and spoil my video monitoring and time lapse. I admittedly didn't have proof that it was caused by the Tripp Lite but I suspected even though I didn't see any log errors I was still having trouble. So I figured trying a strictly USB 2.0 adapter might make a difference. And they are not easy to find now adays. Long story truncated slightly, this adapter works a treat with my SSD drive. I've not lost one frame or had my camera freeze since I started using it, and it would specifically fail if I was watching it and doing a timelapse at the same time. But 3 hours into a print and everything is working perfect, I have much lower CPU load too. Another indication that data is flowing smoothly. I'm buying 10 more of these because It's a fair bet they will work on anything with a USB 2.0 port. And data gotta flow. I'll check back in, in a few months and let you know how things go, I have a similar problem with the Tripp Lite and Raspberry Pi 3. Which I will test this out on shortly. Best wishes to all.

ASUS WL-500GP V2 802.11b/g Multi-Functional Wireless Router with x2 USB Plug-N-Share hard drive function and Print Server Function

Pros: As small home wireless routers go this is a gem. It works well for the coverage it needed and has been very stable. I installed openwrt and it's had thousands of hours now without a problem.

Cons: none

Seller did me wrong

My order took more than a month to be shipped. No notification of delay or that item was out of stock. They created a shipping label quick enough but it sat at waiting for carrier pickup 4+ weeks. Finally notified by Fedex package was on it's way. Item arrived, packaged poorly and only 1 of the 2 ordered. I sent a notification to them last Friday and this is now Wednesday with no reply. If I ever see this seller again on a product I need. I will look elsewhere.
