This review is from: MSI G41M-P33 Combo LGA 775 Intel G41 + ICH7 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: This is the in-between board for the older 775 socket processors. Has DB-9 serial port and memory slots for DDR2 and DDR3 (no mixing). This also has an IDE port as well as the sata ports.
Cons: ram limited to 8gb I believe - not really a con for older tech as expected. Tight layout.
Other Thoughts: I am a repair shop and had a customer with a robot machine that grades/classifies samples of material. This board is the best! Old pci scsi card "snugggly" fit in and the scale plugged in to the serial port AND his old ddr2 ram plugged in. I saved the day and MSI did too!READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Small business can utilize this to run phones along with data. Combo ports are good for linking buildings/switches together. Rackmount ready. Gigabit ports for the big stuff!
Cons: needed a firmware update upon arrival to do what I wanted - minus egg.
Other Thoughts: I have used these to hook via fiber (combo port by generic manuf.) from building to building. I have used them to power 12 NEC ip phones...check how much draw your phones are so as not to hook up too many. They sit in a closet so noise is not applicable. (knock on wood) They just run!READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: ASUS A55BM-E FM2+ / FM2 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros: Buy this board if you want to build a solid, basic, pc. Has both PS2 ports for older compatibility. Pair this board with either an A4-6300 (spreadsheets and word -even for mediapc) or A8 for more power. This also has onboard serial port(dongle sold separately). For me this is the upgrade build if you already have equipment you need to keep running
Cons: Everybody who has problems with this board, check your bios if you are running newer processors.
By the beard of Odin, do not email ASUS tech support! I have never received a helpful answer to an email support request. I call. I needed the serial pigtail/dongle...wanted a part number, what , where-to-buy. Email response was "yes, the serial port is built into the board" AH HA!
Other Thoughts: I just put 70 -SEVENTY- of these with TM-302 cases 4Gb ram, Windows 7PROx64 and SSD 60 and 120Gb drives (based on application) into a local business. Data is server based so I sold speed, not size. Out of the seventy, I had one board with a video issue. Seeing the several home-builders with issues, I had to comment. Follow static precautions and use quality parts - no problems.READ FULL REVIEW
