Most Favorable Review

As advertised.

SYBA SD-LP-PEX2IR PCI Express Low Profile SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
SYBA SD-LP-PEX2IR PCI Express Low Profile SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: Price

Cons: Installing the driver was not so straight forward. There are a ton of drivers on the CD. This could have been done a lot simpler. Other than that everything is working.

Overall Review: I bought this because my Asus M3N78 Pro Motherboard didn't have free SATA connectors after the RAID array was define.

Most Critical Review

I bought 6 of these, so I know.

MadDog Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner
MadDog Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: It was too cheap. I bought 6 for my home. And bought them because they were never in stock just in case. Well I have gone thru all but 3, and those 3 I am not burning DVDs on. This drive is not going to last you 3 months if you are burning a lot of DVDs. In fact, I think I have found the magic number to be around 200-300 DVD burns per drive. And I challenge anyone, especially the MadDog folks, to say they have gotten it to burn more than that.

Overall Review: I am trying another brand for 5 bucks more. Hopefully NEC can do better. But if not I will be back to let you guys know.

HighPoint RocketRAID 2300 PCI Express SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
HighPoint RocketRAID 2300 PCI Express SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: It works fine. Running Win 2008 with RAID 5 for over 3 years with this card. It works with 2TBx4, 3TBx4, and 4TBx4 drives. I am buying another one and will be putting 6TBx4 drives on that one. If it doesn't work out I will let you know.

Cons: None.

Not a reliable product

Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan
Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan

Pros: Comes with a fan and cables.

Cons: Stopped working after a year.

Overall Review: I purchased 3 of these over a span of 1 year. Two have already stopped working. I thought it was the HD at first. Remove HD and docked it. HD was fine. I put HD back in enclosure things worked for a few days then HD was gone again. Tried new HD and got same results. The second enclosure did the same thing a few months later. I am just waiting on the third one to go out, it's only a matter of time.

Bad Product

Western Digital WD Green WD20EARS 2TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital WD Green WD20EARS 2TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price and size. Western digital.

Cons: High failure rate. Maybe it is the green line. I have been replacing these things like crazy. 1.5 or 2.0 TB they are not showing good quality. I am using them in RAID 5 array and this is more trouble than I bargained for. 4 X 2TB = 5.4TB RAID 5 array isn't turning out to be a good idea because the array keeps degrading because of these drives. Called WD and they don't suggest using these in a RAID array, and I see why. But I can't turn back now because I have too much data, and too much money invested in these drives, so I will just grab an extra one, hope it's not bad and wait for one of the four in the array to go bad, replace it with the standby, RMA for another wash rinse and repeat until I can't take it anymore.

Good for 8 months

Rosewill RFA-120-BL - 120mm Computer Case Cooling Fan with LP4 Adapter - Blue Frame & 4 Blue LED Lights, Sleeve Bearing, Silent Case Fan
Rosewill RFA-120-BL - 120mm Computer Case Cooling Fan with LP4 Adapter - Blue Frame & 4 Blue LED Lights, Sleeve Bearing, Silent Case Fan

Pros: The price.

Cons: Stopped working after only 8 months in a relative dust free environment.

Overall Review: I think I am done buying sleeve fans, going to try the ball bearing ones for a while.
