good product, not enough documentation

NexoTek NT-B300 USB Skype Gateway
NexoTek NT-B300 USB Skype Gateway

Pros: I bought this after converting to Skype and cancelling our land phone lines. It wasn't clear from the product description or the company's web page whether the product did what I needed, but I took the chance. Here is what this product really does: Plugs into a USB port on a Windows PC on one side and a plain old telephone cable on the other. It fakes a dial tone so normal analog phones can be used to make skype calls. It can even be plugged straight into a wall jack so the rest of the house phones will all share the skype PC to make calls. Now you can use a regular old phone to dial something like "001-503-123-1234#" to make a skype call. Very slick.

Cons: We have a DirecTV unit that needs to make phone calls occasionally. It can be told to use Skype's funky call prefix, but not the postfix "#", so it can't make calls anymore. But that isn't really this product's problem. It is an annoyance that any outgoing call will pop up the skype application on the PC and interrupt the person using it. The user manual is badly translated from Chinese to English.

Overall Review: Overall, a great way to expand your use of Skype and save a lot of money on phone calls.

HP LaserJet Pro 200 color M251nw Workgroup Up to 14 ppm 600 x 600 dpi Color Print Quality Color Ethernet (RJ-45) / USB / Wi-Fi Laser Printer
HP LaserJet Pro 200 color M251nw Workgroup Up to 14 ppm 600 x 600 dpi Color Print Quality Color Ethernet (RJ-45) / USB / Wi-Fi Laser Printer

Pros: This is an inexpensive printer with good print quality. The toner is easy to replace. It prints quietly and has no odors that I noticed.

Cons: Both of the two units I have owned of this model have died in the same way: the unit makes a small popping sound, emits an electric smell, and then no longer can be powered on. One printer lasted a year or so. The other just 5 days. I can't recommend this model.

Overall Review: I'll be looking for a model that is more for the business market hoping that the parts will have a longer life.

lovely design

Creative ZEN Vision M 2.5" Green 30GB MP3 / MP4 Player
Creative ZEN Vision M 2.5" Green 30GB MP3 / MP4 Player

Pros: Pretty case, intuitive controls, plenty of features, feels good in your hand

Cons: requires WinXP, slow to charge without buying the wall charger

Overall Review: The WinXP requirement is a drag for me. I run Win2K because I don't want my OS talking to Redmond all the time. Spent a long time trying to understand why XP is required and it seems to be a DRM thing. So that is also a con. I don't think my player should be enforcing DRM. It should be a hard disk with just enough smarts to play music. I'll probably end up loading this up for my wife through a borrowed laptop and then not changing the songs on it until it breaks.
