Green and still workin!
Pros: Have had this drive in a working WMC machine for over a year now and is still working. The drive runs 24/7 and is only a back up to data/wmc videos on the server. I do use it fairly often as a catch all to move files to one location then move off to another drive. I run windows 7x64 on a gig 990 ud3 board Seq Read/ Write is as follows with Crystaldisk Mark, both 32 and 64 tests run the same result Green 2TB runs 110mb read 107mb write WD Black 1TB runs 145mb read 140mb write WD Black 2TB runs 145mb read 139mb write WD red 3TB/each runs (raid 0) on a Rocket Raid 640 card 270mb read 170mb write WD Black 2TB/each runs (raid 0) on MB SATA ports 240mb read 175mb write
Cons: a bit slow but does its job and playback for HD is good!
Overall Review: The black and red drives are better. The green will occasioally miss a beat when streaming and moving files from it at the same time. The black and red do not have this issue. If you are planning on using this drive for streaming/recording you will be fine. You can have issues when moving big files/recording/playback all at once, tho not anything major just a small quick frozen frame, talking about a .10 hic_up. A good drive for the price wish the warranty was better.
Tired od DOA drives
Pros: The brand is decent
Cons: DoA
Overall Review: Purchased this drive and it arrived DOA, shipped back, second drive new egg shipped out worked for 2 days then sounded like a pile of screws shaking in a jar. Waiting on 3rd drive now. Spent 25$ on shipping so far on returns.
Use for Lightroom and Photoshop! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
Pros: I had standard monitors( 2x 24" acer x223w 1680x1050) for working with Photoshop and Lightroom. I would finish editing and then put it up on the iMac and have horrible results because the monitor of the iMac is way better in video quality. There are no artifacts, bleed through, or blemishes on the View Sonic LED screen anywhere. A better Picture than my 50" 1080p big screen TV! I will be investing for another at some point. Right now I do the editing on the 27" and use the 24" for sorting images.
Cons: A bit pricey but worth it
Overall Review: Make sure your video card can handle 2560x1400 before you buy this or you will be stuck with the default resolution setting of your current video card. I have a GTX570, card is a couple years old but does the job well! Also I do game a little and simply put: all games are amazing in detail!
Second Chance
Pros: Update to my previous post. Tech Support was AWESOME (JEFF) when they finally came through! THANKS NETGEAR you all ROCK!!! Unit has a TON of features to work with and then some!
Cons: Support will only help you if you have the correct certified drives. If they have to get in the NAS and find you have non certified drives, they will not work with you from what I have read.
Overall Review: The 316 has a lot of options on the table for you to work with. If you are in need of help on getting any of the software apps working, get ahold of support they will gladly help you out. There is also a ton of information on the support community. I do recommend that if you are planning on running multiple apps off the NAS then go with the 516: Example running the apps media plex and NVR I would go with the 516 instead, simply because it has more power to handle the load
Real good range
Pros: Easy setup if you are familiar with any type of wireless setup. To use just the plain feature of access point set the ip, dns, gateway, wifi password and your pretty much done. It also has many other advanced setup options. The range is very good. I set the device up for a customer at an auto shop, plenty of range 200' away and still full bars. I only say that about the range because it is sitting down under the counter, not up high.
Cons: none
DIED AFTER 15 Months
Pros: worked for 15 months used for the OS drive and while working was a very good drive. All said I have had decent luck with WD drives.
Cons: died after 15 months
Overall Review: The replacement process at WD is nice not too much of a headache. Glad the warranty is what it is! On top of that I have a total of: 4 black 2TB drives- no issues at all working 24/7 for over a year! 4 black 1 TB drives- 1 drive received from New egg DOA 3 times in a row. I finally sent back to WD and I hope the 4th will be good. So far on that single drive I have spent close to 60$ on return shipping and that hurts! WASTED MONEY that I can't get back, if I have another drive from WD fail I will swich brands forever! The 3 good drives have been working for around 16 to 18 months 24/7. 1 Green 2TB- no issues working 24/7 12 months 2 red 3TB- no issues, working 1 month 24/7
