Cannot get this well-equipped PC for less!

HP Debranded Desktop PC INTEL i7 4770 (3.4Ghz) 4GB DDR3 RAM 1TB HDD DVDRW LS Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit [HP Debranded] #700-059C

Pros: Win8.1 PRO (comes w/Win8, but easy to update), very easy to do upgrade, no crapware, Beats audio (if that matters)

Cons: A bit ugly case, but who cares (you can put it behind or under a desk). This is not an Apple product where it is meant to be showcased.

Overall Review: Out of the box, I was pleased to find no crapware installed on this PC. Also did not have to do the "Welcome" stuff associated with a new install of Windows. It already was configured with "USER" as the sole account. Also, no crapware, antivirus, etc. to uninstall. Ordered 16GB of RAM (2 sticks) and took out the 4 GB that was installed. Next added a $45 video card that allows 3 simulaneous outputs (HDMI, DVI, VGA), vs. the onboard video that offered DVI and VGA. Next cloned the 1TB hard drive to a 120GB SSD (cost about $50) and now the PC boots in about 7 seconds. Next installed two (2) 500GB drives in RAID configuration (can do this once BIOS setting is adjusted for Intel RST). For < $700, I have a super PC that completely tears through heavy Excel and Access queries that I run, and does not hiccup when I have 10+ programs running simultaneously. All of my files are synced on OneDrive (which I remapped to the 500 GB RAID) and so I have the OS only running on the SSD and all of my files on the RAID. I am extremely pleased with this PC after 3 weeks.

Pros: Works with Windows 8.1. No driver disc required. The installation / getting started instructions are also very good / well-written.

Cons: Could / should be a bit cheaper. Perhaps $10? It is also very short, but chances are, you have a longer 9-pin serial cable that you are mating up to this cable.

8.1 update headache, but worth it in the end

Gateway SX2110G-UW318 AMD Dual-Core Processor 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD Desktop PC Windows 8 64-Bit (DT.GDYAA.002)

Pros: As others have noted, for $170 you basically get Windows 8.1 and a decent PC. Once I installed Classic Shell and set it to boot straight into desktop mode, I think I actually like this PC's operating system more than Windows 7 (which is now almost 5 years old....hard to believe).

Cons: Not the zippiest computer, but we are not doing much computation-intensive work on this. Mostly using it to run a front end of a database (and connect to SQL back end). Also, no power cable was included.

Overall Review: Getting from Windows 8 to 8.1 was not a fun or quick exercise. I kept getting the "Update Failed" error (after reaching 90+%) and eventually had to spoonfeed (1 at a time) the updates and do some other tricks in order to "prep" it for downloading Windows 8.1 from the store.
