Beats my Brother or HP purchases
Pros: Great price at newegg, much more solidly built than Brother, does not overheat like HP. Scan function is excellent, too
Cons: paper tray is a little tight and you have to wiggle it a bit to open and close. Otherwise, the unit is top notch.
Overall Review: I also like that it has a USB port conveniently on the front for scanning to a dongle
Linkstations All Die in 2 Years
Pros: Yes, they are cheap and install easily. I've set up 4 of them over the 3-4 years, in varying capacities as part of a small office network and for home use. I'm an engineer, and IT proficient.
Cons: I will not buy Linkstations products ever again. ALL have failed within 2 years. They consisently die of fan failures or become intermittent in holding a network connection and then die shortly thereafter. EVERY SINGLE ONE - in two years. These items have been used at 3 different physical locations, so that is not a factor.
Overall Review: Avoid the Linkstations!
Pleasant surprise - first Windows 8 desktop/top
Pros: I have long held back on upgrading to Windows 8. I was pleased at the easy installation. JUST REMEMBER to start it up, the first time, without an Internet connection. That way you will NOT be prompted to create a login with a Windows Microsoft Live ID. System is operating beautifully. So much quicker! Re-installing all my licenses for business applications went smoothly
Cons: Have noticed any yet.
Overall Review: I ordered a Logitech touchpad to go with it. But, it really is not necessary at all. It works fine, and I suspect it will be useful when I do more work with Adobe Illustrator and other applicatons where I'll use a stylus. But for regular work - totally not needed.
No problem - installs great
Pros: No problems with installation. Sleek design. Excellent output. Instructions leave nothing to chance.
Cons: Image Garden (optional software) causes startup problems - if you have an older Windows OS, or if you use Adobe software, you can skip this software. It can slow down or hang the startup (where it automatically inserts itself)
Overall Review: Did not test networking ability - this was a direct USB connect install to a Sony VIAO laptop.
Works like a champ - a little noisy
Pros: Needed it in a hurry and got it fast. Quick setup. Good indicator lights. Serves its purpose well.
Cons: A bit noisy. l live in the country and usually wake to the sound of crickets, but the noise is typical of an air conditioner and very "white noise - like", so you sleep just fine.
Letters wear off - avoid if using heavily
Pros: does the job. blue lighting is good in near dark situations
Cons: letters wear off - it is awful! makes the keyboard useless after 16-18 months
