Fantastic Ram

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory w/ Red & Green LEDs Model BL2KIT25664AL80A
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory w/ Red & Green LEDs Model BL2KIT25664AL80A

Pros: The LEDs are a perk. you can see if there is activity going on or not. I have a windowed box so the wall shows off the LEDs flashing (esp at night). The RAM is fast and reliable. I use under extreme gaming conditions while running a VM (Virtural Machine) in the background. I have NEVER had any ram related erorrs or issues. I run Photoshop, in addition to my gaming, which is a very memory intensive program. The addition to faster ram (for me) is noticeable. Windows 7 needs at least 2GB of ram to work smoothly. if you doing gaming or using any other memory intense application i would highly suggest the tracer brand along with maxing out your ram for your motherboard.

Cons: non so far.

Overall Review: The lights can make your room a bit Christmasy if you have a cover with a window on it. I waited a year before making this review for a reason. Everyone has a honeymoon stage with equipment. I wanted to wait to see how it would hold up under stressful management.

ATRIX CSCI-A9001-C4 Black SECC steel sheeting FCC class CB&CE approved ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ATRIX CSCI-A9001-C4 Black SECC steel sheeting FCC class CB&CE approved ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: The box looks nice.

Cons: Here we go: 1) the hard drive encasement (where the harddrives sit) is right up to the side of the case. if you have SATA or even IDE it was be an extremely close fit. Basically you will be smashing your wires right up against the case side panel. 2) The instructions tell you basically nothing. This isnt my first custom build. I have to say most boxes have @#$#$ instructions and this box ranks up with it. 3) to get the CDROM to to show on the indicator you have to have it plugged in on a seperate IDE channel connector then you insert these flimsy two pin pronged things into the "slave" connection (which is the middle connector on an IDE cable). now if you even try to move wires this will come out. 3) The screwless bays they have are horrible. you will have to use screws. Thermaltake does an incredible job at screwless boxes. ATRIX so far doesnt. (at least on this box). You stuff will move around when pushing button you will eventually have to use screws.

Overall Review: No Power supply but thats ok, i prefer boxes without one. I can add what I need for power. ATRIX could have made instructions a bit more detailed, than a 2 foot by 5 inch long folded piece of paper

FAST! Replacement for mechnical

Seagate Desktop SSHD ST1000DX001 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive
Seagate Desktop SSHD ST1000DX001 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - Fast boot times after a few boots - Application load times are faster (photoshop, lightroom, games) I intensively use my computer by load, re-loading applications. Any hard drive I have owned I can kill it (if cheap) before a year is up due to the heavy usage. I replaced my WD VelociRaptor with this drive. I wanted to see how a hybrid would fair against a 15,000 RPM mechanical drive. I have always used "Raptors" as my primary choice for boot drives. This drive is keeping par and exceeding the VelociRaptor. If you have a 5400 or 7200 RPM drive you will and should notice a huge increase in performance, the only thing faster than this would be a full-SSD drive. The bang for your dollar with this hybrid is worth the transition.

Cons: - none so far. I don't hear any clicks or unusual noises coming from the drive. My drive is actually mounted on the top of the box in an angled slot for ease of access. Any noise from a drive in that top slot would be very noticeable. Pretty quiet so far.

Overall Review: - Always buy on Newegg. Why? if you read other reviews you will see the manufactures read these reviews. You get very top-notch responses from their customer service teams. Other sites, best of luck. - Always buy something that is rugged (hard drive wise). I have seagate NAS drives as my other "storage" drives that sit inside the box. Why? NAS made hard drives are made to take higher tolerances in heat and activity. UPDATE: almost 3 years to the purchase date, the drive is failing. I've RMA'd a replacement thankfully still under manufacturer warranty. I won't be doing any more hybrid drives. Not due to this drive's failure but SSDs are now cheap enough to replace mechanical ones.

Amazing Case

COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: The Flexibility of this case is amazing. I installed the full compliment of Hard drives: 2 on the top, 4 on the bottom, 6 in total. The wiring was routed on the back and it was fairly easy. Hard drive installation was incredibly easy. One trick is to be sure you "push" the tabs so they are recessed a bit. otherwise the trays won't slide in so easily. The fans provided are pretty quiet. along with a decent amount of air flow. Temperatures: System temp: ~42C Hard drive temps: 26,26,28,35C (7200 RPM drives) 2 top drives, 10,000 rpm drives @ ~37C I think if i added another fan to the back of the 4 hard bays (bottom 4 bays) it would drop the temps a bit more. the 4 drives are not raided but just storage drives for audio/video editing. I have a raided NAS for the important things. By FAR this is the easiest case I've worked with. Check out youTube for videos on this model. You will be very impressed. Your wallet will thank you too.

Cons: The manual text for the box could be better and a bit bigger.

Overall Review: I would recommend lots of smaller zip ties for routing of wires along the back plate of the box. especially if you are going to have a lot of hard drives and things in the 5.25 bays. Have some medium size zip ties for the larger bundles. I used a modular PS, but i used all the cables. It took a few times to figure out a nice path for everything.

No Issues - Crucial always top notch

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory w/ Red & Green LEDs Model BL2KIT25664AL80A
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory w/ Red & Green LEDs Model BL2KIT25664AL80A

Pros: FAST ram, 4-4-4-12 is fast ram when I bought it and it is still in the running for being better than most. Photoshop performs well and my high demand online games bask in the faster ram. Windows 7 has a very noticed improvement. 4 gigs is great

Cons: none so far, wish i had bought 8 GB.

Overall Review: I haven't had any issues with the ram minus the bright LED light (which - to me - are a bonus), not just for the bling factor but I had my system stall out. I looked in the window panel -- ram was 100% idle. LEDs are a great addition to see if you have activity or not. Crucial has always held itself to higher standards. OCZ, Corsair all have been leaders in RAM. Crucial is name you can count on. Those that had issue: EVERY vendor in the united states OEM parts of their product. Sounds like they just had a OEM part that wasn't up to spec. Crucial has alway, hopefully stays like this, been more than generous on help out users with technical failures with their products.

Vantec as a whole

Vantec NexStar 3 3.5" SATA to USB 2.0 & eSATA External Hard Drive Enclosure (Onyx Black) - Model NST-360SU-BK
Vantec NexStar 3 3.5" SATA to USB 2.0 & eSATA External Hard Drive Enclosure (Onyx Black) - Model NST-360SU-BK

Pros: The case is made to get *HOT* especially if you have a 7200 RPM drive running in it. Aluminum is something that easily dissipates heat. Here is Alum/steel verse Aluminum: Heat conductivity of aluminum: 160 W/(m·°C) (actually about 221). Heat conductivity of steel: 61 W/(m·°C) so you are are talking about heat being thrown off the casing about 4:1, so YES it will feel hotter than other cases. Heat dissipation is a key factor in your drive's life span. Tech support is prompt on emails. I even lost some screws. they sent me a few in the mail without charge.

Cons: The LEDs might dim out considerably low after some time. I had one dim down to 50% its original brightness. another lost about 25% from its original bright blue.

Overall Review: I own 5 of these, ranging from the IDE version to the SATA ones. They can stack BUT if you have more than one and you plan on stacking plan on having a fan blow across them. They will be *HOT*. I have my horizontally on my desk with about a 2-4" gap between them. I never had any transfer trouble. I did have one go out but i think it was more to a power surge than anything else. I use my units more than the average person. Lastly when sliding in the hard drive, just do it slowly so you don't pinch out any wires. You will see what i am talking about when you get the case. Nothing horribly hard about installing a hard drive on Vantec's products. The biggest reason I purchased this: heat dissipation and it looks good. No product is perfect when you find something that works stick with it until the product fails to be good or your taste just changes.
