Pros: Same as previous review
Pluggable BIOS chip is a plus

Cons: ASUS tech support / eStore doesn't offer this BIOS for purchase
Tech support (general tech support) resorts to RMA for this issue

Other Thoughts: I bought a replacement BIOS chip through a "large used online retailer" and it fixed my issue of the bad flash. But I had to order it from the Netherlands.
I also ordered one from San Jose, CA (who custom-flashed one) but it was delayed due to a seller family situation.

This fixed the motherboard issue I had.
Definitely didn't need 2 BIOS replacements, but this way I can flash a new BIOS and have a for-sure backup!

Also, I used this Motherboard to replace my aging HP DEC z5xx (mine was a z552) motherboard. That's an HP Digital Entertainment Center.

The Front Panel LCD / LED software WILL WORK (I'm using Windows 7 x64 SP1 now) if you install ALL the ASUS diagnostics software (and BIOS 1601). It enables the BIOS calls and the Firewire driver required by the Front Panel tservice.exe process.

There's a long thread over at that talks about how to keep this form DEC factor running, and this motherboard will do it.

Pros: Easy installation, All-in-one, Quiet, Low power, etc.
It's good for a home-theater PC type thing like I was using it for because even when the fan is on, it's still quieter than the spinning disks.

Finding the right drivers for it will significantly help improve video performance. But the Catalyst software is really bad.

Cons: The latest BIOS update (1601) completely BRICKED the motherboard. It won't POST, beep, no video, nothin'. Nuthin' burgers. I used the EZ Flash 2 utility in the BIOS like I have before. It completed properly, said it was going to Reset the PC, and everything went black.

ASUS does have a recovery mode for a Bad BIOS Flash, but it assumes that the motherboard will boot far enough to be able to read some sort of media.

I put a copy of the BIOS ROM file on a DVD, USB, and the root folder of my drives (properly named) and it couldn't get started.

So, I guess I need to RMA the entire board. The BIOS is removable. So I could order a new chip somewhere for $20.

Other Thoughts: I see that the BIOS date was created in May 2012 and was posted in September 2012. I thought it would fix an issue with some USB keyboard things I thought I had. I guess I won't know.

Shipping the entire motherboard back for this issue seems crazy, but maybe something else is wrong...

I've not had this issue before with ASUS motherboards, but once I recover this one, I think I won't be touching the BIOS again.
