Band-Aids Not Included

SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum front panel, 0.8 mm SECC body Grandia Series GD01B-MXR ATX Media Center / HTPC Case
SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum front panel, 0.8 mm SECC body Grandia Series GD01B-MXR ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: The style just looks great, not cheap. Solid construction, and good air-flow with 5 case fans running. Relativley roomy inside, just enough little spaces to hide all the wires. Unheard number of HDD can be installed and two 5-1/4 spaces all in one HTPC case, wow, that's what sold me. Internal components are well designed and laid out with attention to detail.

Cons: This case is not for the faint of heart, it will test you. Blood will be drawn and in that instant you and your case will have bonded. Like so many of the other reviews, the only con I have has to do with the IMON LCD & software.. This would have gotten a rating of 5 if not for IMON. The other con is with the cases HDD's mounting bracket... This problem is self-inflicted, if you're planning on running more than just a couple of HDD's (Running 5 HDD's, 1 320GB and 4 1TB drives) then installing the extra fans for the HDD's becomes essential to help prolong the HDD lifespan. installing the extra fans will push the HDD's further out to the middle of the case and could interfere with other cards that are installed or other components on your MOBO. And last, they don't include Band-Aids with the case.

Overall Review: Once you have those beasts of a HTPC case loaded up with all the cool goodies inside it, my unit is pushing 40 pounds in weight. I went ahead and replaced the 2 back 80mm and order 4 low noise fans, PSU and CPU. Plus the addition of a passive cooling video card, the loudest noise comes from the PSU fan. Once you are ready to tackle the IMON utility software, Vista 32Bit seems to run better and there are no updates available yet to stabilized Vista 64Bit. Pros: A good drive to use as primary hard drive in your system if it works.

Cons: I wish it had come DOA, then I wouldn't have wasted weeks trying to install the OS. The OS would take hours to install and would only run stable for a day or so before it would start crashing. So now I'm past the 30 day return policy for new egg and have to fight with WD now for a replacement.

Overall Review: Once you receive your new hard drive, check it immediately. I found out the hard way by replacing my new drive with an old backup drive. Wouldn't you know it, all my weeks of pain and suffering went away.
