Most Critical Review

They look great, but were both defective

Lepa Chopper Advance 120mm High Performance LED PC Case Fan - Green
Lepa Chopper Advance 120mm High Performance LED PC Case Fan - Green

Pros: -Seemingly good build quality -LEDs look great I settled on the Green LEDs, as I was upgrading a media server with no ability to run ARGB devices, and I wanted a green theme. Upon arrival, they seemed to be of high quality and solid. I was hoping they would add a great visual quality to the build, and they did until...

Cons: -Make loud clicking noise that can be heard rooms away -LED lights don't sync up between fans A few days after installing the fans, they started making a very loud clicking noise. It sounded like the blades were hitting or rubbing on something. I inspected them, and there is no visual damage or anything that could be hitting the blades in the case. I unplugged them to give them a break and inspect, and after plugging them back in, they were no longer making the noise. A day later, its back. The noise is so annoying that I am no longer using the fans. Very disappointing. The great visuals don't matter if the fan is useless! I had them mounted horizontally on the top of my case, not sure if this is an issue if they are mounted vertically. I included a video of the issue for reference. Another issue is I had two of the green fans mounted side by side. At first they changed patterns in sync and looked great. But over the course of a few hours I could see one was ahead of the other. Over a few days, they were no longer in sync at all. This wasn't really an issue for me though, as they still looked great.

Overall Review: Overall these fans were a bust for me. Their eye catching light show was not worth the noise that came along with it. I'm guessing it's a balancing issue caused by the LED strips on the blades. These seem to be designed with flash over function. I'm not sure this is always an issue with these fans, but I purchased two and they both had the same issue after the first couple days. Again, I did mount them to the top of my case, so it's possible this is less likely if mounted to the sides / front / back. Unfortunately I was lazy and didn't address the issue quickly enough to get an exchange or refund, meaning the money was a waste. Overall, as nice as these look, I would not recommend them.

May have slowly killed my HDD

macally PHR-S100SUA Aluminum 3.5" SATA USB & 1394 & eSATA External Enclosure
macally PHR-S100SUA Aluminum 3.5" SATA USB & 1394 & eSATA External Enclosure

Pros: Physically solid, some buttons cheap when disassembled.

Cons: Runs HDD very hot, after a couple months on winxp I got many delayed write failures and noticed the case was very warm. I removed the cover and pointed a desk fan at it and it worked fine from then on. Very ghetto looking. After moving the HDD into a new computer I am getting SMART errors saying the drive is failing. I've ever had issues with Seagate drives in the past. I think the excessive heat on the drive slowly killed it.

Overall Review: I don't think I'll buy enclosures in the future, just normal externals.

Worked fine while it lasted

Pros: High storage size worked well for a while

Cons: I had it for 3 years running on windows xp, using it to store all my movies and tv. I thought it was fine until I moved it into a new box running windows 8 and I was informed that it failed the SMART scan and that I should transfer all the data off and replace. Who knows how long it's been bad since winXP never told me.

Overall Review: 3 years of service isn't bad, though I originally bought it to be my long term media drive. Hope I can get all my data off before it totally craps out. Time to go HDD shopping.
