Pandigital recalled due to software glitch

Pandigital Novel 7" Tablet 1GB Android eReader Kindle On-Board (R70G100)
Pandigital Novel 7" Tablet 1GB Android eReader Kindle On-Board (R70G100)

Pros: Cheap price, battery lasts 4 hours.

Cons: Firmware upgrade can brick the device, plus it got recalled http://goodereader.com/blog/e-reader/pandigital-e-reader-recalled-due-to-software-glitch/ the thing is advertised as Android 2.0 or 2.1 but it is really Android 1.5 hence the problems. Cannot upgrade to Android 2.X either without risk of bricking the device.

Overall Review: Good for just reading eBooks from Barnes and Noble, it locks out the Kindle app and locks out installing the Android Market app, forcing the user to use Slideme instead, gag! Save your money and buy a non-ebook reader Android 2.2 tablet instead that won't lock you out and will run Android Market. This thing is nothing but trouble, unless you know how to hack it and get root access. All hacks apparently are using the Canadian Kobo firmware and still Android 1.5 and people trying to put Android 2.2 on it get a dysfunctional device. If you want an Android 1.5 device that cannot be upgraded and only limit yourself to the Barnes and Noble and Slideme stores, then this is the Android eBook reader Tablet for you. If not, buyer beware.

Unreiable

Pros: Good board until it died, cheap quality. Only a 30 day warranty.

Cons: Complete blowout in 9 months. Would not buy this board again.

Overall Review: I would not trust this company or brand. My son's PC did mostly Youtube videos and hardly anything else and the board died for no reason. Even had a UPS to protect it.

Locked eBook reader update problems

Pandigital Novel 7" Color Multimedia e-Reader/Tablet Running Google Android 2.0 + Wi-Fi - White

Pros: Low price, was $69 on sale.

Cons: Would not read eBooks out of the box as advertised. Pandigital said to do a firmware update. I did one and it did not read eBooks after that but installed a new Android OS. I did the update one more time and the update hung the machine. Then when it restarted it said Pandigital Novel and stuck there for over an hour and would not power off or do anything. I never got to read eBooks on it. This is a complete and total waste of time. The Ebook reader advertises Android Apps and Android Marketplace but there was no option for them and the apps were not there. This thing is locked to only read eBooks which it didn't and use a web browser.

Overall Review: It would be nice if it worked, I RMAed for a new one. Hope the new one is better.
