Nothing but frustration
Pros: I purchased this board primarily for the Flashback option. I bought an AMD 3400G at the same time, and I saw the Flashback feature as a way to avoid the issue of updating the BIOS that I had with the 2400G with a board that did not have the Flashback capability. Physical installation of the board went smoothly, and I installed an M.2 drive and a 500 GB ssd. I used the Flashback feature to install the latest BIOS on the board. The system booted, but I was having trouble getting the m.2 drive to operate as the boot drive. It was getting late, so I decided to go to bed and deal with the boot problem the next morning.
Cons: When I turned the computer on the next day, nothing happened. I didn't know if the problem was the CPU or the motherboard. I replaced the 3400G processor with my 2400G and still nothing. That was five days ago and the situation hasn't changed. My fear is that the BIOS update bricked the system.
Overall Review: Overall, this has been a frustrating experience. I still can't determine if the problem is with the CPU or the motherboard, or both. I've spent a lot of time looking for help on the MSI website, but with no success. I've considered using Flashback to revert the BIOS to an earlier version and then install my 2400G, but I'm afraid I'ii end up with a dead 2400G. I don't know what to do next. I doubt that MSI will be willing to take the board back.
Would probably be a good board if I could update the BIOS.
Pros: It was easy to install the processor, memory, and the APU fan.
Cons: The BIOS requires two updates, a bridge BIOS update followed by a second update. The problem is that the board won't post, so I can't flash the BIOS. Apparently, you must have an earlier AM4 socket processor installed for the board to post, either an earlier Ryzen version or a Bristol Ridge APU. I tried to get it to post by installing a separate video card, but that didn't work. I've considered buying a replacement BIOS chip with the latest BIOS version, but I can't find a USA vendor. I've also seen indication that the BIOS chip is soldered and not in a socket, so that isn't a reasonable solution. The easiest solution would be to borrow a Bristol Ridge processor so that I could u
Overall Review: I can't recommend this product to anyone. I don't place all of the blame on Asrock. I think that Newegg and other vendors have a responsibility to inform customers about potential problems.
Great Picture, Terrible Sound
Pros: Great video, with an extremely wide viewing angle.
Cons: The sound from the speakers is horrible.
Overall Review: I ordered this monitor because my wife's older 24 inch Samsung monitor received some water damage. I chose this monitor because a recent knee replacement made it necessary to set up her system so that it could be easily moved. I thought that eliminating external speakers would make this easier. I hooked it up via the HDMI input and could get no sound. I tried different drivers, etc., thinking that it couldn't be the monitor. I had recentfly put a new motherboard in her system, so I thought that might be the problem. I took a small Samsung TV that I use as a monitor on another system, and hooked her PC up to it using HDMI. The sound was perfect, verifying that the problem was not the PC. I then connected the audio out from the PC to the new monitor. The speakers then produced sound, but it was very low even at max volume and the audio was badly distorted. I contacted Newegg and was immediately issued an RMA number. Newegg recommended that I purchase the monitor again and just ship the current one back once the new one arrived. I assumed that this was just a bad sample, and ordered the same monitor again. When the new monitor arrived, I hooked it up via HDMI while it was still in the box and verified that I was getting sound. I then mounted it to the stand from the first monitor, and boxed it up for return. After having it for a few days, I realized that although there was sound from the speakers when connected via HDMI, it was still very low volume and distorted. When I saw only one other review of this monitor at Newegg, and that reviewer had identical problems, I concluded that this is a design or manufacturing problem with the monitor, and not just a bad sample. I think that Samsung has a defective audio preamp in this system. It sounds as if the power amplifier for the speakers is receiving such a low gain signal that it produces a low level and highly distorted output. I would like to return the monitor, but my wife like's the display and the adjustability so much that she has said that she will put up with external speakers rather than return the monitor. She loves Samsung products, but this monitor has changed my opinion of Samsung completely. I can't fault Newegg for this. I have been buying regularly from Newegg since the company was founded, and I have always found the support to be outstanding.
