Great for low budget WHS 20011 build

Intel BOXDH67CLB3 LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel BOXDH67CLB3 LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Full ATX Intel chipset with solid SATAII RAID5 capability. Accepts the low wattage I3 2100 Sandy Bridge. Onboard video is great for hooking up a monitor temporarily while you install the OS. After WHS is installed and tested, the monitor, keyboard and mouse are removed for a "headless" server.

Cons: North bridge runs very hot. It was running over 65C consistently. Although I didn't have any heat related problems, I mounted a small fan on the heatsink to bring the temp down. I could not get the onboard NIC driver to install while installing WHS 2011. The driver that came with the motherboard install disk refused to install with this OS. I had to manually install Intel 82574L "Gigabit Network Connection" drivers.

Overall Review: Works great as a home server board. It's much cheaper than so-called server boards and you don't have to use ECC RAM. I can't say enough about how awesome the Intel SATA RAID works on this chipset. I use one internal connection for the OS drive, the remaining four internal connections for a RAID5 four drive array and I used the external SATA connection to hook up a Sans Digital TRUTBPN 4bay RAID enclosure that has four drives set up in RAID5. MY total dynamic storage is just shy of 10TB. Safe and fast...sweet.

No worky for me

SilenX IXN-40C Copper Chipset Cooler
SilenX IXN-40C Copper Chipset Cooler

Pros: Very nice quality little unit.

Cons: The little unit is too big(diameter) for the chipset location on my Intel BOXDH67CLB3 LGA 1155 Intel H67 Motherboard. Too many capacitors in the way.

Overall Review: I thought about breaking out the Dremel tool and cutting it down to fit but the supplied springclip(only way to mount on this MB) is a definate no-go as well.

A True Audiophile Speaker

Polk Rti A9 Cherry High Performance Floor Standing Speakers
Polk Rti A9 Cherry High Performance Floor Standing Speakers

Pros: Wow, I’m really happy with my purchase. These speakers are worth every nickel I spent. I’ve owned the Polk Monitor 70’s for a couple years now and believe the 70’s are a great value but even though I tried bi-amping them and powering them with a dedicated XPA-2 amp, I could never get the mids and lows to sound natural without raising the volume to an uncomfortable level and then the highs would sound too harsh. Vocals always sounded relatively subdued unless I enabled my CS10 center speaker in 7 channel stereo. The Monitor 70’s also required the use of a powered subwoofer which always had to be adjusted every time I switched from one type of music to another. Enter the RTi A9’s. Using my Yamaha RX-A2000 as a "fronts" preamp for the XPA-2 amplifier to feed these beasts is two channel musical heaven. I can now listen to music at a full 15db lower volume and hear every nuance, whether it’s a barely perceivable cymbal strike, a crack in the singers voice or a series of deep bass guitar notes. No subwoofer needed…no lie. Great recordings sound awesome! To test vocals I listened to Nora Jones’ Come Away With Me and Rufus Wainwright’s Hallelujah. For percussion it was Talking Heads’ Papa Legba and The Judds’ Water of Love. The kick-rear bass was proven with New Orders’ Blue Monday, Sublime’s April 29th, 1992 and Harold Faltermeyer’s Axel F. Music that is poorly recorded or heavily compressed sounds so much better too. Amazing! These are truly outstanding speakers. Hats off to the folks at Polk Audio.

Cons: None so far. Did I mention the vernier wood finish and how beautiful and glossy it is?

Overall Review: Thanks to Newegg also for shipping these Fedex so they didn’t get pulverized by the rough handling perpetrated so often by that other ground carrier. They arrived undamaged.

Second failure

Lighting EVER Dimmable LED Bulbs, CREE LED, 9 Watt, Brightest 60 Watt Incandescent Bulb Replacement, Cool White, Home LED Light Bulb

Pros: None

Cons: Second failure-didn't even last three months!

Overall Review: I bought four of these (what a sap, huh?) and now have a 50% failure rate in less than three months.

Audiophiles should avoid

LG 3D WiFi Built-in Blu-ray Player BD670
LG 3D WiFi Built-in Blu-ray Player BD670

Pros: loads quickly nice DVD upconversion

Cons: Cannot find a lossless audio codec that this thing supports! If you want to stream lossless audio files ripped from your CD collection from a home server, forget ALL LG BD players. It claims to support WMA...OK...BUT NOT LOSSLESS WMA files. Also it DOES NOT SUPPORT lossless WAVE or FLAC files.

Overall Review: Thank goodness my network capable Yamaha RX-A2000 receiver supports anything I throw at it or I'd be out of luck with this sorry excuse for a media player.

Silent, works well

Logisys Computer CC2 North Bridge Cooler 2
Logisys Computer CC2 North Bridge Cooler 2

Pros: Fits nicely on my Intel BOXDH67CLB3 LGA 1155 Intel H67 Motherboard "northbridge" which was running very hot.

Cons: Its height may block the installation of some expansion cards. In my case I used one PCIEx1 slot for a NIC and it wasn't too long.

Overall Review: Mounted this heatsink/fan combo by using the original MB heatsink springclip. I had to remove the fan temporarily to get it properly placed over the base of the heatsink-piece of cake. It is a very secure attachment. Also used a bit of Arctic Silver thermal compound.
