Flawed HDMI input

Westinghouse L2610NW-SP Black 25.5" 2ms(GtoG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DC 3000:1 Built in Speakers
Westinghouse L2610NW-SP Black 25.5" 2ms(GtoG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DC 3000:1 Built in Speakers

Pros: Big, bright, TN panel keeps it inexpensive but color banding will show in some cases and viewing angle is limited. Design matches the other Westinghouse monitors from the same series well (19", 22", 24").

Cons: HDMI input will not work correctly at 1920x1200 resolution for me in Windows Vista or Windows XP. I have tried both ATI HD4850 and Nvidia 6150 and neither works. At 1920x1080 the screen looks pretty normal except for the "stretching" taking 1080 vertical pixels to 1200. When set to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz, the monitor looks horrible and the information menu incorrectly shows 960x1200 as the input resolution. When I called Westinghouse support about this problem, they insisted that the monitor is "plug and play" and they couldn't see how there was a problem with the HDMI input. They suggested I just return the monitor to the store and try another one, there are no firmware updates or display drivers to try. Another con is that the built-in speakers make a buzzing noise as you lower the brightness. Worst at 0, no noise at 100. This can be solved if you turn the speakers to "mute" in the menu, most people won't be using them anyway.

Overall Review: I did try with several different HDMI cables, since some folks online said they had luck with that. A Monoprice DVI->HDMI and a DVIgear heavy-duty HDMI 1.3 cable using the ATI HDMI adapter. I believe I am having problems since the firmware version is 001. The only success stories that I have found with HDMI at 1920x1200 was with firmware level 000. Why Westinghouse "broke" this functionality in a later release of their firmware is beyond my comprehension. Probably would have been perfect if they had included a DVI input in addition to the HDMI one. Most consumer HDMI devices only support up to 1080p anyway, which would have worked fine. Check out the thread on Hardforum. I ignored the advice there and thought I could get it working on my PC.
