Most Favorable Review

great, but some caveats

IOGEAR GUC2020DW6 USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card
IOGEAR GUC2020DW6 USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card

Pros: Works fine at full 1600x1200, portable, built-in support for rotation. Currently only way (I'm aware) of adding digital vid. to a laptop. If it were less-expensive, I'd probably buy more-than-one.

Cons: POWER: make SURE item is receiving ample amperage; consider plugging into a powered hub, and substituting better USB cable than what comes with it. Else, it flakes-out. Also, newest driver still has Chinese (or some non-English) text. It would really be preferable to have this as a PC card (rather than USB). Or, have this but also have a cost-effective PC card version that could support better performance.

Overall Review: BE CLEAR ON WHAT THIS IS: It is a *wonderful* addition to any system you want to easily add a monitor, but it does *NOT* do everything an internal card does. USB bandwidth won't do full-res./full-screen/full-rate video (it's just not possible, and not a fault of this device), and there's no 3D acceleration. But for adding digital video to a laptop (and you shouldn't be using anything but),

Okay

Icon Light RG102A Rogue 1 Gray Alluminum Flashlight 50 Lumen
Icon Light RG102A Rogue 1 Gray Alluminum Flashlight 50 Lumen

Pros: decent light, decent finish, very solid aluminum

Cons: Cannot stand on (bottom) end, switch very easily accidentally triggered when stowed.

Overall Review: Would be good "utility" light, but cannot stand and shine up. Would be good "camping" light, but end switch easily triggered in pack, plus too hefty. In sum, good "all-around" light, fairly priced in single digits (which it sometimes is).

Very, very HD

AOC U2870VQE 28" LED LCD Monitor - 16:9 - 1 ms
AOC U2870VQE 28" LED LCD Monitor - 16:9 - 1 ms

Pros: Very HD. No bum pixels. Pretty big.

Cons: Make SURE you know how to drive this thing! Combination of card/cables must be up to the task of full-res/refresh. Non-trivial. Also, quite a bit of bleed-through means very mediocre contrast; not super-great for video. Also, at the LOW END of size for this resolution. I don't want higher-res than this, but I do want bigger!

Overall Review: Fair value for cost. If I had to buy again I'd get something bigger.

Pretty Darn Good

Velodyne vFree Wireless Bluetooth Headphones (Silver)
Velodyne vFree Wireless Bluetooth Headphones (Silver)

Pros: Good, balanced sound. Quite comfortable. Lightweight. Good range

Cons: Could be a little less cheaply-made.

Overall Review: These aren't noise-cancelling. I've never seen this claimed, so don't know why some reviews raise a stink about it. I also see an inexplicable range of sound quality claims. Go figure. I've got fine ears, and some great-sounding, very well-reviewed headphones. IMHO, these sound just fine. The biggest problem -- far-and-away -- is that Bluetooth blows. Depending on the implementation, your sound may be poor, and have such high latency that you can't watch movies/video with these. If so, that's the fault of the transmitting device, not these. I have a good Bluetooth host, and experience slight, but non-problematic latency. Steeply discounted (four tens) these are an absolute steal.

Own. Love.

Polk Audio - Atrium 4 4-1/2" Outdoor Speakers (Pair) - White
Polk Audio - Atrium 4 4-1/2" Outdoor Speakers (Pair) - White

Pros: Small, great, surprisingly good sound.

Cons: Woofer cage is potmetal.

Overall Review: These speakers punch well above their weight class. For < three figures, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. The only real down is that one dropped from a modest height onto a wood floor. From this, the woofer cage bent, and the driver no longer worked. Polk sold me a new driver, all is well. But they should be made from stiffer metal. That aside, these are really great speakers. I highly recommend them. Remember, for proper bass, placement is ALWAYS critical.

STILL TOO BIG!!!

COOLER MASTER Elite 110 RC-110-KKN2 Midnight Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case
COOLER MASTER Elite 110 RC-110-KKN2 Midnight Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case

Pros: As chassis go, it's admittedly fairly small. "Okay" looking; not great. Yeah, you can add a bunch of drives on there, and a pretty big video card.

Cons: It's STILL WAAY TOO BIG!!! Why are "gamers" considered to be the only market for SFF?!? Even with a discrete video card, probably 50% of the internal volume is wasted. I ABSOLUTELY do NOT need an optical drive, and if I did, I'd be okay with EITHER a thin/laptop formfactor drive (easy to source) or USB. So why all this extra space? The issue is the standard ATX formfactor P/S, which is a poor choice; you want to go with a 1U/"server"-style, which are much more dense, but otherwise power/energy comparable.

Overall Review: NOBODY HAS YET gotten this chassis formfactor right! The Lian-Li LI PC-TU200B is only slightly larger, and much, much nicer/lighter (though admittedly much more expensive). Please, Lian-Li -- or anybody -- MAKE A SMALLEST-POSSIBLE MINI-ITX CHASSIS. You'd sell a ton of 'em.
