This review is from: Canon imageFORMULA P-215 Scan-tini Personal mobile Document Scanner
Pros: I love this little scanner. I literally can't believe how often I end up using it. I scan just about everything with it including important receipts, documents, and more. I thought I would use this a few times per month, but once I got used to using it, I now use it almost every day for one thing or another. Now I have decided I want to go paperless, utilizing Dropbox for storage.
The included software is great, and even has embeded software you can run directly off the device that works great, especially when using it on other computers without having to install any drivers or software. It doesn't however work with the 3rd party software I was planning on using (see Cons). But figuring out the settings in the included software, I get exactly what I want out of the scans, stored in PDF's just like I want them. The scan quality is great, and I love how fast it is, especially when scanning both sides of a document at once.
If you have USB3, then all you need is the one cable.
Cons: Before receiving the scanner, I was aware that the 3rd party software Vuescan was not supporting the P-215, but I had hoped to get it to work. Even trying to use the twain drivers, I couldn't get it to work. However, the included software provides 95% of all the tools I wanted out of Vuescan (Actually a PRO).
Other Thoughts: I HIGHLY recommend this scanner. I can store it in my Laptop bag, and pull it out anytime I need it. I have scanned hundreds of pages of documents with it and am very pleased with the PDF output. I was also pleased with the Card scanner portion, that can scan hard plastic cards and thick business cards. I went ahead and copied everything I have in my wallet in case I ever lose it, I know exactly what was lost.
If you are in the market for a portable scanner, this one is great!
Pros: I am loving this laptop! Everything about this laptop is awesome.
One of my favorite features is the back-lit keyboard. I thought I'd use one color and never change it, but I end up changing it a few times a week based on my mood.
I haven't burned a Blu-ray disk yet, but it seemed plenty fast burning a few CD's and DVD's. Played a Blu-ray movie and it played flawlessly as expected.
Got pretty impressive FPS in the game demo's it came with, the Turbo Setting made a 20-30% difference at least.
The sound is pretty good, probably the best I've heard from a laptop.
I can't figure out ow to use more than 6-8GB memory... What am I supposed to do with the other 8-10GB of remaining memory? I'm a web developer and usually have a lot of programs open at once. I'm not much of a Gamer these days...
I highly recommend this laptop (or it's newer version, the GT780DXR-200US).
Cons: Doesn't have the faster 2.2Ghz 2670QM processor - but this laptop's newer version does (GT780DXR-200US). Go buy that one - same price.
There is no eject button on the blu-ray drive itself, and the eject button on the main control area doesn't work when I don't run MSI's S-Bar software. I can still eject in Windows Explorer or in WinDVD.
There are no Media buttons like play, previous, next... I knew that before buying, but have really missed them, I didn't realize how much I'd miss them.
The laptop back-light is awesome but doesn't turn OFF in sleep, it just switches to a slow wave pattern. I leave the back-light on whenever I use the laptop, but I can't figure out how to turn it off in sleep.
Has the same brightness range as most all laptops, I wish screen could get even darker, as I use it in front of my TV in a dark room all the time, and the laptop is brighter than my tv at the laptops lowest brightness. Why don't they let us turn it even darker, like my mobile phone ge
Other Thoughts: I am annoyed at Newegg... When I found this laptop (GT780DXR-099US) here on newegg, I thought it was perfect but was sad it didn't have the 2.2Ghz 2670QM processor like MSI's newer version of this same laptop, the GT780DXR-200US. It's exactly the same laptop, but the only difference that I know of is the upgraded processor. Newegg didn't have the 200US at all, and I waited for a few days watching for it. I did one last check for the newer one before buying the 099US, and still wasn't on the site. I purchased the laptop and like 30 minutes later I get an email that the laptop was shipped (sweet!). As soon as I got that email I searched again for the 200US, and low-and-behold, they have it in stock... I literally think Newegg was waiting to sell one more of the 099US before putting the newer one online. They probably had the 200US in stock for a while...
If you are in the market for a new laptop, I would imagine the GT780DXR-200US would be the one to buy in this price range.
