ZyXEL NSA325 Diskless System 2-Bay Power Plus Media Server

4 out of 5 eggs Not bad, not great, price makes it reasonable 01/31/2013

This review is from: ZyXEL NSA325 Diskless System 2-Bay Power Plus Media Server

Pros: Slapped a couple of WD Red 2TB drives in it, cranked it up, set for no raid (4TB total) and not much in the way of fuss for setup. Didn't bother with the setup disk as the web management tool works just dandy.

Comes with a bundle of mildly-useful applications including a download manager that will deals with FTP, HTTP, and Torrents.

It's small, seems to manage heat fairly well, and hasn't had any disconnects in the 1st month or so of use. Serves files to both workstation and HTPC (LinHES with MythTV) without much of a sweat.

Cons: The uPnP in the current BIOS is hosed - won't even allow itself to be touched in the management interface. Hafta get a ticket open with ZyXel on that bit. So if you're buying this to use as a media server with your un-rooted Android device, probably best to look elsewhere for the time being.

I have plenty enough experience with networks but if you don't I suggest having a geek on-hand to set it up and review some of the goodies.

Net speeds are adequate but not much to brag about.

The blue power LED is obnoxiously bright.

Doesn't make me breakfast.

Other Thoughts: It's a decent, inexpensive NAS with some minor glitches and performance issues commonly associated with pretty much any other decent, inexpensive NAS I've come across.

Rosewill THOR V2 Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Supports up to E-ATX / XL-ATX, comes with Four Fans - 1 x Front Red LED 230mm Fan, 1 x Top 230mm Fan, 1 x Side 230mm Fan, 1 x Rear 140mm Fan

Pros: Holds everything. Cable pass-thrus everywhere. Numerous, fuss-less drive bays. Front expansion ports and power switch on the top where they should be. Fans and places for more fans everywhere. And it's black with red lights and lots of diagonal styling that makes it a case that Darth Vader would use for his office PC.

Cons: It's BIG. This is not going to sit on your desktop, or on a shelf - it's strictly a floor model. Comes with riser feet but should probably have wheels and a small tractor to pull it around with. The pass-thru grommets do indeed require gentle handling, but they're not really bad.

Other Thoughts: Reviewers (including me) have made the sheer monstrosity of this case a "Con", mostly by way of comedic relief, but it really doesn't deserve any negativity - it's an excellent product.

Silverstone PCI Express Card with USB 3.0 Internal Connector Model SST-EC01-P

Pros: It's small

Cons: Most likely a DOA or just did not want to play with my motherboard with its existing USB 3 ports. Never showed up in Win 7 devise manager.

Other Thoughts: Purchased a different product not available on NewEgg made by USpeed - worked perfectly.

I think it's lovely that you can buy automotive parts, handbags, home and outdoor products, and various other goodies from NewEgg. However, its shows a definite slip in purpose when I need to go to another market named after a long river in South America to find a better brand selection of geek toys for my computer.

I really do love Newegg, but as a shopping experience for computer parts go, this was a complete bomb.
