Don't make my mistake...

Intel BXSTS100P 25.5mm tall passive heat sink
Intel BXSTS100P 25.5mm tall passive heat sink

Pros: NA Luckly new egg let me return it with a 15% restocking fee even though it was covered under replacment only policy! Thanks for being flexible!

Cons: It has to be used in server cases with ducted airflow. I did not pay attention to that when I bought it. It is expensive for a chunk of metal, which is not even 100% cooper.

Overall Review: Don't make the mistake as I did! I brought this for a dual processor xeon system set up in a regular tower case with regular case fans. Unless you have the right type of set up for cooling it (ducted case, chassis blade system..) it is not going to cool. Cpu's will overheat after 15 min of load. Buy the other cooler from intel with the fan on it.

Most Critical Review

front panel sound not working

SUPERMICRO MBD-X8DA3-O Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5520 Extended ATX Dual Intel Xeon 5600/5500 series processor
SUPERMICRO MBD-X8DA3-O Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5520 Extended ATX Dual Intel Xeon 5600/5500 series processor

Pros: Stable, easy to build, fits well in my Silversonte case. Board is fine with windows 7. Boot speed is acceptable for a server board. High def sound is very nice too bad that the front auido connector is deffective.

Cons: Only has 6 sata ports: 2 optical + 4 HD max. BIOS driver managmnt is confusing. Can not diferentiate between sata HDs and add on controll cards (add on card are not shown at all customer service has no solutions and blames it on the card, but I tried 2 different manufs) Did not work with SIIG sata controll card, bios does not seem to show it. Did work with SIIG ultra ide 133 card for HD's only in win 7, but not for DVD or CD drive. Decided to give up on controll cards so I just upgraded all the HDs and DVDs to SATA. The front panel audio connectors does not work, so I decided to buy a regular PCI creative gaming sound card since ther is no PCI-E 1x slot for better sound cards. Customer service does not respond Emails, and over the phone they are not too knowledgable. Over all I would not buy another supermicro, I would by an ASUS which I had no problem like that before. Also the chipset fan will probably fail over time, too bad they did not make a better cooling solution forit

Overall Review: Pay attention to which memory slot you put the memory, if you do not follow the manual it won't boot just beep for memory error. I use Silverstone strider 1200W PSU which has dual 8pin cpu power support and 3 PCI-e plugs and it runs it nice. So no problem with power. Others mentioned that firewire pins are place next to the pic-e slot and hard to access. Why not put a PCI-E 1x slot for sound cards instead of having 3 PCI-E 16x for video....
