WD hides info as to PLATTERS

Western Digital Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: WD makes good solid drives - of all sizes. It is not an absolute SUPER drive, but then what I want is HIGH performance, plus it KEEPS GOING. WD does that.

Cons: NEVER know what you are getting from WD. The same part number appears to come with different numbers and types of platters. See below.

Overall Review: What I thought I was buying was a TWO platter model with 320GB per platter. But the 00J7B0 run number I got seems to be associated with 250GB platters, so that it may have 3 platters, one side NOT USED. I DO NOT WANT MORE STUFF RUNNING IN THERE THAN IT NEEDS.

SOLVED - VGA just not PINNED out NEWER cards!!!

Rosewill RA-VGA-DVI-D 25pin (24+1) DVI-D Male to 15pin VGA Female Adapter
Rosewill RA-VGA-DVI-D 25pin (24+1) DVI-D Male to 15pin VGA Female Adapter

Pros: Transfers the VGA signal IF it is PINNED out. NOT pinned out on NEWER cards (see below) - but WORKS with OLDER cards!

Cons: Just general confusion about the issue.of adapting a DVI - I connector to VGA. Does NOT do what I wanted to do - that is to use a VGA monitor with the DVI plug on a modern video card.

Overall Review: So I ran some experiments - and the problem seems: Adapter worked with OLDER GeForce 7300, but NOT with newer more modern GeForce 210 or Radeon HD 6450 - both of which obviously have converters to make the analog VGA signal. (both have working VGA out connectors!) Seems VGA signal is simply NOT pinned out to the FOUR VGA pins in the DVI - I connector reserved for VGA!. So the newer graphics card DVI-I connector really only functions as a DVI-D (all digital), but it will "take" a DVD-I plug and cable without physical damage - just don't work. If the graphics card makers had simply provided a proper DVI-D connector - then a DVD-I "adapter plug" would simply NOT have fit - and it would be obvious the VGA is just not "in there" in the plug!
