Avoid Linksys

Linksys EA6400 Smart Wi-Fi Router - Dual Band AC 1600 Video Enthusiast IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n
Linksys EA6400 Smart Wi-Fi Router - Dual Band AC 1600 Video Enthusiast IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Once setup, it works. Mostly. See cons...

Cons: Has to be the worst device I have ever had from Linksys. Ever since my WRT54G, I've never been happy with a device from Linksys. However, in a pinch for home internet I picked this device up as my Netgear gave up the ghost. I acquired this device in March, and here we are in October and it's mostly dead. But not all dead. Now, every device in my house works if it meets one of the following conditions: 1. Wired directly to the router. 2. Is not a laptop. Tablets, phones, game systems, and everything else except the laptops worked great on the wireless. The laptops would connect and after a minute would go to Limited Access and we could not get to anything on the network. Connected same laptops via wire and it worked flawlessly. Connected same laptops wirelessly to a portable hotspot and they worked flawlessly. So, after much struggle, a full reset on the router, and attempting to disable everything not needed on the device, they still don't work. It's like the wireless radio just didn't want to work with the laptops anymore. This is the third device I've had from Linksys (including the WRT54G) and this one and the last one were pure junk. I shouldn't be 6-7 months into a router and the wireless radios start being selective about what devices they will service. If the router were 2+ years old I would understand, but this is stupid. I dropped this router off my network immediately put in a router from another maker (ASUS) that setup faster and easier and with less fuss.

Overall Review: Linksys, get your act together. You used to be the king of home networking, now you're just the jester. Get the bloated garbage off the router (Smart WiFi? My backside...) and just make a device we can use to access the internet and allow us to turn on features as we need them.
