Nice little work station

COMPAQ Desktop PC 100B (XZ846UT#ABA) AMD E-350 2GB DDR3 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6310 Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
COMPAQ Desktop PC 100B (XZ846UT#ABA) AMD E-350 2GB DDR3 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6310 Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Pros: Win 7 Pro 64-bit! Small form factor Quiet Runs fairly cool AMD CPU Built-in Front Panel Card Reader (very convenient) I've had this PC for less than a week, but so far it has performed well, meeting my expectations. I don't game and I don't use graphics intensive programs, so this PC is entirely adequate for my needs. Also, I'm having fun learning to use Win 7 Pro 64-bit. One recommendation: Since this product is usually delivered by OOPS, I recommend that you open the box and inspect it before the OOPS guy can escape... (the box had two rather large holes punched in it) Also, before powering up for the first time, I opened the case to make sure that all connections were secure and not jarred loose by the rough handling.

Cons: Yes, straight out of the box this PC required extensive updating. That seems to be the case with every new PC on the market today. Still, it wasn't so bad. I've seen worse. Product dimensions: As listed on the specs, the measurements are inaccurate. The case is actually 13 5/8"D x 11"H x 4"W. The listed dimensions might be for the case without the legs and front bezel included or for a previous model case. The actual dimensions will only be a problem if you are severely limited on space. Bloatware: Why do the manufacturers continually blight a good product with this garbage?

Overall Review: This little PC is an excellent buy if your expectations are realistic. For instance, I would love to have a larger hard drive and more memory. But what can you expect for $250 with free shipping? At some point in the future I will upgrade to a 1TB hard drive and 8GB of memory. 'Nuff said! I am going to donate the included mouse and keyboard to my local school or Library because I don't need them.

Merely adequate

Portable Store Tank Box Case Enclosure for 3.5" IDE SATA HDD Hard Drive Disk New
Portable Store Tank Box Case Enclosure for 3.5" IDE SATA HDD Hard Drive Disk New

Pros: It's orange. It's plastic. It's one piece, meaning that the lid just folds over where it's connected to the box. That means that it will break off at the attachment point. It fits my hard drive perfectly. It does the intended job. I feel it is somewhat overpriced. If the price were lower I would have given it 4 eggs.

Cons: Price too high for what you get. Lid should be properly hinged.

I would buy SanDisk anytime!

SanDisk Cruzer 32GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) SDCZ36-032G-A11
SanDisk Cruzer 32GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) SDCZ36-032G-A11

Pros: Indestructible! I don't own this particular flash drive yet. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it however. I've owned an old 1GB SanDisk Cruzer since 2005. The conditions in which I've used it were horrendous. I spent 4 years in Iraq as a mechanic. We all wore our thumb drives on a lanyard around our necks. Once, I was slimed with about 10 gallons of 10 weight oil from a transfer case. My SanDisk Cruzer was thoroughly saturated with the oil. I thought it was toast... I wiped it off as best as I could, then after work I dropped it into a coffee cup full of isopropyl alcohol, repeatedly opened and closed it, then let it soak overnight. The next morning I pulled it out, dried it as best I could, left it in the open position and hung it up to drip dry for about a week. When I determined that it was dry, I plugged it into a computer and VOILA! It still worked! None of my data or pics were lost or corrupted. Maybe I just got lucky or maybe SanDisk makes a good solid product. In my opinion, good!

Cons: The cruddy U3 software! Ugh! I hate it! Thanks to a previous reviewer, I can now remove this blight from my thumb drive!

Overall Review: Honestly, if my old 1GB SanDisk Cruzer could survive and perform flawlessly under the conditions described above, this brand obviously makes a good quality, solid, dependable product. More other thoughts: My old Cruzer still seeps a little 10 weight oil from time to time... I just wipe it off and continue with whatever I was doing. :)

Good Retro look case

Linkworld F3131 c8888 White Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Linkworld F3131 c8888 White Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: 1. Cheap, cheap, cheap! 2. Sturdy & roomy. 3. Carry handle on top. 4. Side window to show your computer guts. 5. Inside is painted the same color as the outside. 6. Factory installed cooling fan on side window. 7. Room for 3 more cooling fans, if you remove the wind funnel.

Cons: 1. Poor front panel USB port placement. It's on the bottom front with a silly little garage type door. 2. No audio ports, just plastic knocks-outs next to the USB ports. 3. Floppy drive bay is part of the front panel complete with an eject button & LED lens. HUH?!! You can't even cover it up. Who needs it? 4. No documentation. But that's fairly common nowadays. Only a parts list was included as documentation. 5. Missing parts. The parts list shows there should be quite a few more parts than is actually included. Some of the missing parts: I/O covers, rubber feet, screws, etc. 6. The whole rear panel feels thin, cheap & flimsy. I feel like the power supply will droop badly once installed because the rear panel is so thin. 7. Side window is riveted on. If I want to paint the case, I'll have to drill out the rivets.

Overall Review: Overall, I like this case. It's a good deal if you get it on sale. I got mine on sale & had a discount code, so it cost me less than 30 bucks including shipping. And no, it's not white. I'd call the color 'putty' which is a dull, grayish, off white color. It reminds me of the old OEM computer cases of the 80s & 90s. But that wasn't a deal breaker for me. I can always custom paint the case if I want to.
