APEX TX-381 Black Steel MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case ATX12V 300W Power Supply

5 out of 5 eggs Good case for the price 05/27/2015

This review is from: APEX TX-381 Black Steel MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case ATX12V 300W Power Supply

Pros: I was a little skeptical of this case based on some prior negative reviews. After doing the build, I'm very happy with the case and the results. The handle is fine for normal use. Some people commented that it would break off easily. Maybe if you spin the case around or do crazy stuff like fill it with stones, but for normal computer transport, the handle should be fine.

All the cable headers were well labeled and the case fan (one on the PS and one in the rear of the case) are reasonably quiet for what you would expect to be included with an inexpensive case.

Cons: The only possible beef is the location of the holes for MB standoffs, and I'm sure this is MB specific. I would had liked one more standoff hole in the corner for the board. It made inserting the RAM into the board a little difficult (without bending the board to an uncomfortable degree). But that's a very small complaint.

Other Thoughts: Overall, the case works well. It made for a nice finishing touch on an entry-level gaming system.

Pros: Paired this with an AMD A10, 8GB of memory and got a very fast system for a great price. I found the board to be well laid out for my application. Manual was fine. The on-screen setup/diagnostics maybe not so well documented, but easy enough to figure out.

Cons: None. Having wrestled with some nasty MBs in the past, this one was pleasant to deal with.

Pros: The APU makes for a simple compact build that still brings impressive performance. My son plays CS:Go at the highest video settings and while I don't have the diagnostic software to put up hard numbers, the frame rate and image quality are excellent! No lag.

For a "value priced" entry-level gaming system, or a very capable all-around PC this processor is an excellent choice.

Cons: None, other than wishing I had more excuses to build systems. Forgot how much I enjoyed doing it.

Other Thoughts: For someone looking to do a "normal" build, I found the CPU cooler shipped with the APU was fine. It's quiet enough for normal PC use, but perhaps too loud for some HTPC applications.
