Roomy, nice, but....

Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower Computer Case with High Airflow, Supporting up to Six 120mm Fans and USB 3.0
Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower Computer Case with High Airflow, Supporting up to Six 120mm Fans and USB 3.0

Pros: Inexpensive Plenty of room , in fact, it looks pretty empty with my modest system in it. I really like the looks of it. Well packaged, even though a certain brown shipping company managed to beat the box up pretty good, I found no damage to the case.

Cons: Having done my research and knowing what to expect and given the price, I don't have any real cons.

Overall Review: I did not put the following under the cons, simply because I feel that for $60, I can live with these minor issues. Just included them to give others a heads up. The frame seems a little flimsy, but with the sides firmly in place, it should hold up fine. Like other reviewers, I found the left side panel to be loose. Pretty easy to take care of though. I went from a micro-ATX tower to this, so this case seems huge. I have a micro-atx mobo, a smallish hd5670 video card, 2HDD, 1dvd drive. This pushed the limit of the old case, now I have more wide open spaces than Montana. I am very glad I purchased this case and would recommend it to anyone looking for a mid-tower under $100. As an aside, for anyone intending to purchase a fan for the top of this or any other case, get a ball bearing fan. Sleeve bearings have a shorter life than ball bearing fans anyway, and mounting them horizontal greatly reduces their life.

Definate improvement

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor - HDZ965FBGMBOX

Pros: Easy to overclock. Got it at a good price. Comes with cool looking heat pipe heatsink (though I am not using it).

Cons: none, but one caveat (see below).

Overall Review: Not as brief as I would like to be but I have a lot to say. Upgrade from Athlon II x4 635 2.9Ghz. Performance improvement that can be seen in most programs. Passmark benchmark shows clear improvements across the board at stock speeds. Have it overclocked to 4Ghz (20X multiplier with slight voltage increase) and stays below 52c after 12 hours of Prime95 using a hyper 212 heatsink with one fan in a Cooler Master HAF 912 with 6 120mm fans). Here is the caveat. I am using a Biostar T785GE 128M motherboard which has an AM2+ socket and DDR2 RAM. I found that the processor does not perform as well as it could. A friend has an HP desktop with an Athlon II x4 640 3Ghz processor on an AM3 mobo with DDR3 RAM and it benchmarks higher than the Phemom in some of Passmarks cpu tests (Particularly higher in Integer Math, 35% higher) and yet lower in others. He let me put his Athlon in my system and it benchmarked lower than in his, comparable to my original athlon and lower across the board than the Phenom. I am seeing a definate performance hit that is due to either the AM2+ chipset or my specific motherboard. I have tried to google this but found nothing yet. Having said all this, I would recommend this processor in a heartbeat. I will write another review when I get new AM3 motherboard to confirm or refute . It will be shorter I promise.

6 month update

Plextor M3 Series 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PX-128M3

Pros: Still going strong.

Cons: Still no complaints

Overall Review: Had the drive for 6 months and have had no problems. Now that the price has dropped, I am considering getting a second to RAID with the one I have. I am looking at upgrading my system including a MOBO with SATA 6 and good RAID support. Will probably update review again

18 months and going strong

ADATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model AD2U800B1G5-DRH

Pros: Has performed consistantly for year and a half even with 15% overclock and slight voltage increase. My system is in a well ventilated case so this may have helped this, but whatever the reason, I am very pleased with this memory

Cons: None really

Overall Review: A little advice when looking at reviews for memory and also to those who have purchased memory that was DOA or failed soon after purchase. I believe that a number of the problems have accured either with lack of compatability, or lack of care when installing. I have yet to purchase bad RAM from any manufacturer including the cheap house brands. I don't think this is pure luck. And to those who give up and go to another brand, you will find that all major brands of memory have about the same percentage of 4 and 5 star reviews, around 92 to 94%. Go with who you feel you trust, but look at motherboard recommendations and use care when installing. I believe this will significantly increase your chances of your new purchase working and lasting.

Great bang for buck

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Video Card 100287VGAL
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Video Card 100287VGAL

Pros: Easy install: no pci-e cables, just installed card and downloaded latest drivers. Fairly quiet: not silent, but quieter than my system until I turn the card's fan up to about 85%. Cool: has stayed below 60deg C even after an hour of 100% utilization benchmark. As title suggests, great bang for buck: rated #5 on passmark's website for price vs. performance.

Cons: Nothing, as long as you do a little research and know what you are getting for the $75 you are spending.

Overall Review: First I must point out that after doing some research I found that for this level of video card doubling the ram adds very negligable improvement to performance. Go with better model, not more memory in this case. As for my personal experience, this card was the perfect addition for my budget (light) gaming system. I am now at $402 and the only thing I have not upgraded is my case and DVD burner. (Looking at HAF912 case). System is as follows: Biostar TA785GE 128M Athlon II X4 635 (2.9Ghz O.C. 3.4GHz) A-Data 2gb DDR2 800 Seagate 500Gb HDD Cooler Master Elite 460 PSU Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 ViewSonic p815 21" CRT Monitor Plays Crysis at 1280 x 1024 all medium 2X AA ~55fps (built in benchmark) Plays Doom 3 at 1600 x 1200 maxed out with 4X AA 110fps+(Demo1 benchmark). I am pleased. Now for that case...$60 for HAF912 and still under $500 for a darn good budget system, and then I can justify $250 for decent LCD monitor.

BIOSTAR TA785GE 128M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: See other thoughts.

Cons: It doesn't do laundry. ( I have 2 teens so this would be a plus).

Overall Review: I wanted to update my review after having for over a month. Still very impressed. Overclocked my Athlon II x4 635 to 3.333Ghz and using stock cooler. Not blow your socks off but it will do til I get better cooling. Over clocked on board video to 800mhz completely stable. Its not bad for on board video. runs Crysis on medium settings 800x600 resolution at ~30-35fps low settings at ~55fps. I will again say that this board is a great choice for someone wanting a mid range board for a low range price.
