Nice Surprise So Far

Athena Power AP-P4ATX85FE SLI Ready Active PFC Supports Intel Core i7 & Skulltrail Platform Systems Server Power Supply
Athena Power AP-P4ATX85FE SLI Ready Active PFC Supports Intel Core i7 & Skulltrail Platform Systems Server Power Supply

Pros: So far, a very nice surprise in a high wattage PSU from an unfamiliar company. I searched a long time to find a PSU with a high amperage rating on the 12V rail for my SLI system. This PSU allows you to bridge or unbridge the 12V rails into a 1 or 2 rail system. IMHO, the noise is unobjectionable. You can push a button to set the fans to high or low speed - at high speed, a blue LED lights up. Even at high speed I can barely hear the fan. I needed a high wattage PSU that would fit the dimensions of my Lian-Li PC777b case, which mounts the PSU at the bottom, and this was the best option I could find. The other leading 850 Watt PSU didn't fit my case. The leads are long enough to actually reach everything I needed without extensions, and there is a plethora of Molex, SATA, and fan connections. The unit is very heavy, which indicates good heat sinks to me, and the finish is attractive. ESP12V compliant - has 8 pin and 24 pin MB power hookups.

Cons: Very expensive, but you get what you pay for. There is NOT an extra power outlet on the back of the unit - must have been changed as a later design revision - but that's no big deal for me at all. The Athena name is unfamiliar to me.

Overall Review: I called Athena to inquire about the size of the unit to make sure it would fit my case. They actually took my name and number, researched the question, and called me back! Pretty good customer service so far!

Most Critical Review

Incompatible with my motherboard

MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model D359M3D/D359M3B
MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Model D359M3D/D359M3B

Pros: Very inexpensive. Good service from Nweegg.

Cons: This drive was incompatible with my Tyan S2866 SLI motherboard. The drive light worked as expected, and the drive seemed to act normally, except that it refused to read or write any files. Only gave errors saying the drive wasn't ready.

Overall Review: I replaced the drive with a competing brand, which worked immediately. The only difference I can see between the two drives was the number of pins on the connector at the back of the drive. The Mitsumi drive does not include all of the pins on the bottom row of the floppy connector, while the unit that worked well with my motherboard did have all of the pins except the one missing key pin. I researched the difference between these two protocols, but I was unable to figure out why one drive has all of the pins, and the other doesn't. This is probably normal, considering how protocols change. Just be careful. I am using a 24" single ended round floppy cable in my computer case, perhaps cable length has something to do with it? Newegg is great, as usual.

Great video card for Windows DAW machine

XFX HD 5000 Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card HD-545X-ZQH2
XFX HD 5000 Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card HD-545X-ZQH2

Pros: Very low Windows 8.1DPC latency Silent Low power consumption No internal power connection Low price

Cons: None, as long as you aren'the using this for heavy gaming

Overall Review: This is a great card for a digital audio workstation build. When switching from a competing GPU to this one, my DPC latency went from ~500uS to ~75uS. This is a critical parameter for pro audio use. I only need stability and good 2D performance - I don't game on this machine.
