I Love My Zenbook

ASUS ZenBook Intel Core i7-2677M 4GB Memory 128 GB SSD Intel HD Graphics 11.6" 1366 x 768 Ultrabook Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit UX21E-DH71
ASUS ZenBook Intel Core i7-2677M 4GB Memory 128 GB SSD Intel HD Graphics 11.6" 1366 x 768 Ultrabook Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit UX21E-DH71

Pros: It boots up SOOOO fast... I actually prefer my zenbook over my desktop which has a Phenom Quadcore overclocked to 3.8Ghz. The SSD just makes everything so much more zippy and It looks amazing.... With the body being aluminum it feels very solid. Somebody posted about wifi connection problems... I have had no trouble at all connecting to wireless networks.

Cons: The trackpad is kind of annoying but I find ALL notebook trackpads kind of annoying so I won't hold it against Asus... just get a good bluetooth mouse and you're set. I really wish Asus would have released a matching external optical drive with a brushed aluminum body but I won't hold that against Asus either... The LCD is very nice if you are looking straight on but it has limited viewing angles... side to side is ok but up and down is the issue.... I have to open the notebook to just the right angle for optimum viewing... but I can live with that too... it's not like you're going to be viewing it anywhere other than seated right in front of it with the screen being just 11.6". I would have liked a 256GB SSD but I didn't want to wait for it... an option for 8GB of RAM would have been nice too..

Overall Review: The Zenbook is definately not a knock off of that thin notebook from the fruit company... similar specs but considering the SSD is faster and Asus thoughtfully includes adapters for wired ethernet connection and DVI monitor.. my old favorite game Pharoah installed without a hitch and runs perfectly with an external optical drive. I haven't tried any modern games but intel has a list of compatible games for the HD3000 GPU if you search for it.

my first one died after two weeks

SAMSUNG ToC T240HD Rose-Black 24" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers
SAMSUNG ToC T240HD Rose-Black 24" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers

Pros: This is a beautiful monitor. Its huge, stylish, beautiful picture. I can see how somewhat limited viewing angles might be annoying to picky people but if you are just sitting at your desk it really is a non issue... at least for me. I think people haveing issues with color or brightness just haven't taken the time to learn how to adjust the settings. There is a program on the driver disc that walks you through the calibration. I'm very satisfied with the visual image of my monitor. That said..... PRO: Samsung provides 3 yr warranty... you might need it....

Cons: My first monitor died after 14 days. It didn't go completely dead but it may as well have. The last time it worked right... after 25 minutes of operation The image on the screen started getting all sparkly like pixi dust with white and silver pinpoint flashes... then at about 30minutes the screen became very pixelated, and by 40 minutes it was a blurry mess... changing channels on the tv tuner would sometimes result in verticle lines and bars and PC input would be gray swirles fading to black.... It definately wasn't my computer or video card because I tried other monitors which worked perfectly. If I shut the monitor off for awhile and turned it back on it would be fine for 20 to 25 minutes then it would puke again.

Overall Review: A lot of people have had good luck with this monitor... there is a good manufacturers warranty... my replacement monitor is working beautifully so far... It is annoying having to return things which is why I am only giving 4 eggs All things considered I'd still recommend this monitor.... nothing can touch it at this price point. Just for the record I bought mine locally and was allowed to exchange without a fuss. I wish I'd ordered from Newegg instead because its cheaper here at the moment and I probably would have gotten a good one the first time. My previous monitor was an Acer which I ordered from NewEgg and its still going strong after three years.

Research known issues with your hardware before you buy.

Palit GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card NE/9600T+0152
Palit GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card NE/9600T+0152

Pros: Some people have said this card is loud when it starts up... It is much quieter at start than my previous card the 6600GT ever was... after a couple seconds the fan slows down and I cant even hear it over my case fans. It was scary the first time because I thought it had actually quit.

Cons: The 9600GT crashes my computer when I try to play games... but I think it is the fault of my outdated hardware; not Palit... I blame myself for not researching known issues better and Nvidia for not working out the compatibility issues or not raising the minimum specs which is why I'm just rating the card 4 eggs.

Overall Review: Everything was fine for internet etc... until I tried playing my games. I'm not a big gamer just Medal Of Honor, SIM City, Caesar IV etc... about 5 minutes into a game my computer would just shut down completely. MY system configuration: MSI K8N NEO4, socket 939 Athlon64 4000, 2 Gigs G.Skill cas 3, 500GB Seagate HD, Windows XP SP2, 500 watt Rosewill PSU I tried updating drivers, patches, reinstalling etc... no dice... time to start over with a new build I guess.

Comments: I bought the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI motherboard from Newegg about 2 months ago and have been very happy with it. This is my 4th homebuilt computer... I just plugged everything in, loaded Windows XP, and it booted up without a hitch the first time and has been rock solid stable ever since and I didn't even have to flash the bios or anything. The creative SB live audio sounds great. I don't hear the northbridge fan at all over my other fans... I am more satisfied with this motherboard than I have ever been with previous motherboards I have owned. There is nothing I don't like about it. If you buy it you won't be disappointed.

Comments: oh... oh... oh.... su-wEET!!!!! The Fedex guy just delivered my new black Silverstone Temjin full tower case. I could hardly wait to tear into the box! I saw the silver version at a local electronics store for about $30 more than Newegg. I loved it at first sight but I knew I'd love the black one even more. I ordered from Newegg Sunday and it arrived Wednesday morning. I thought the delivery guy was going to have a hernia carrying the box up my front stairs ITS HUGE!! and its even HUGER inside!! This case has to be among the in the top five best cases you can buy for any amount of money if not the number one. The Hard drive bays are in the top section mounted sideways for easy accessibility. The motherboard is mounted upside down and seperated from the power supply and hard drives away from the heat. Two 120mm fans and a "wind tunnel" shroud over the cpu and motherboard to keep the fresh air flowing. This is one slick case, and very sturdy. The front is thick heavyduty aluminum with a key lock on the side above the usb, firewire, and mic/speaker ports. The steel side door with the window can even be locked with a padlock in the back! The only drawback to this case as far as I'm concerned is the powersupply is a bit far from the motherboard so it is a stretch. I was a bit hesitant to spend this much money on a case but I'm glad I did!!! It is worth every penny. Did I mention it is HUGE!? : ) Shock and awe baby!!

COOLMAX CF-480 480 W ATX "Fanless" Power Supply
COOLMAX CF-480 480 W ATX "Fanless" Power Supply

Comments: Oh... JOY!! I have found nirvana! I never thought I'd get excited over a power supply but my computer is now truly silent thanks to my Coolmax 480W fanless power supply. It may cost more but is definately worth every penny. All I hear is the faint chatter of my hard drive now. The Coolmax powersupply does get warm to the touch but probably not any warmer than my old powersupply. I also installed a thermaltake silent boost heatsink and fan which really lives up to its name unless you crank it up for gaming. Silence is golden.......
