Good, Solid board

ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Feature packed for $$ concious person. I built my PC on Friday of last week. Worked right out of the box, like its supposed to. This board will be able to support the 45nm/Penryn cores that Intel will (hopefully?) be coming out with within the next 4-6 months, as well as supporting the 1333 FSB of the Penryns as well.

Cons: Only one con I can think of, but its easily rectified: The IDE connector is along the bottom of the board, which makes using your "normal length" (18 inches?) IDE cables a bit of a stretch. If you get a 24 or 36 inch IDE cable, you should be ok...then again, I'm also using an Chieftec case (full atx) which could be a reason why. Other than that, it's a solid board.

Overall Review: E6700 stock Corsair XMS2 PC6400 w/DHX running at 5-5-5-18 timings, Arctic Freezer Pro 7, BFG 8800GT with fan speed at 40% speed (compared to the stock 29%) 2x160 Gb Western Digital SATA II 320 GB IDE Western Digital HDD. Idle/Load temps (cpu) 46C/55C Idle/Load temps (Gpu) 44C/57*C *Highest seen so far in Call of Duty 4 @ 1024x768, with 4xAA, and all detail levels set to High

Not bad..

Microsoft Windows XP Professional With SP2B 1 Pack
Microsoft Windows XP Professional With SP2B 1 Pack

Pros: To the person who said: "Does not allow upgrades fresh install only realized it was an OEM version a little to late." Hence the difference between OEM and Retail versions. OEM = fresh install only, no activation needed (usually) Retail = fresh install & installable as an upgrade, and you have to activate it via MS. For "somewhat high" technical knowledge, you'd think you'd know the difference between OEM & Retail.

Cons: Not really a con, but a gripe: "highly technical" end users who blab about security. Your installation of XP is insecure?? One command: gpedit.msc Create a "normal" account that you use to browse the net/check emails/whatever. Remove execute priv's from the Temp folder, under that account you use. (Thats where 95% of malware gets put.) No execute, no infection. Pretty simple, no?

Overall Review: Gonna buy 5-6 more of these for various use. Want to set up an Active directory domain controller and learn about domain policies. Have a few extra pcs layin around (3 desktops and a laptop)
