Most Favorable Review

Good MB, use BIOS chip services

ASUS Z7S WS Dual LGA 771 Intel 5400 SSI CEB Dual Intel Xeon Server Motherboard
ASUS Z7S WS Dual LGA 771 Intel 5400 SSI CEB Dual Intel Xeon Server Motherboard

Pros: Dual Xeons in a non-server-sized case. Lots of I/O, slots for fast video and ECC ram. Just completed the build and a BIOS chip service saved me from having to return the entire MB (search for "bios chip replace"). If you order the MB, just order a version 4 bios chip from your preferred vendor and replace the factory bios chip before even starting. Running twin low-power 5420s - 8 cores for only 100 W.

Cons: Really need to have the new BIOS, version 0401, or life will be difficult. Without version 4, the MB is a brick for many CPUs that you would want or can buy. This little detail is in the fine print on the ASUS web site where they show the CPU compatibility, but seriously, not supporting an E-stepping and supporting a C-stepping of the same processor is pretty weak. Also, the ASUS forums had lots of info that was not documented anywhere in the manual.

Overall Review: A complex build, but I am now very happy with the results. BTW, RAID drivers for Vista 64 can be installed without using floppy drives or USB key drives. When prompted for RAID drivers, just eject the Windows DVD and browse the ASUS DVD for the RAID drivers. When done, just reload the Windows DVD and keep going. After 10 minutes, the box is ready. I'm almost a Vista fanboy after the install experience. We'll see how it goes...

Great For "Computer Speakers"

Creative Inspire T10 2.0 Desktop Speakers
Creative Inspire T10 2.0 Desktop Speakers

Pros: The sound is great as long as you have realistic expectations and need only "computer speakers" to listen to podcasts and music at low volume levels. If you want to throw a party or rock the house with game sounds, this is not the way to go. Sounds much better than the price would indicate. Only two pieces: the power supply is built-in to one of the speaker units. Has a "pod" input for your player, too.

Cons: None. Just don't expect room-shaking bass.

Overall Review: Very impressed. I want to hear Creative's larger models for comparison.
