Locks up regularly

ASUS Desktop PC CM6870-US-3AB Intel Core i7-3770 16GB DDR3 2TB HDD Intel HD Graphics 4000 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Pros: Fast computer, many options for disk configuration and expansion.

Cons: I've found this computer will randomly lock up - meaning suddenly, completely unable to do ANYTHING. Hard boot is the only option. This can be anywhere from once a week to several times a day, and often happens when there is no activity (by user) for several hours. Or it can be in the middle of doing anything. I have it configured for RAID-0, and the implementation of this on board is not good. Often the system APPEARS to have hung, as above, for 30 seconds or more, and from what I can tell, this is due to extended resource hogging by the disk controller as it repairs the drives. On 1.5 TB drives, the mirroring repair takes over 24 hours, and it has to be done each time the system is rebooted from lock up. Since lockup can happen frequently, it is pretty much continuously in this state. I can not, and would not, recommend this computer. Another con: No hard reset button. In fact, no reset pin on the motherboard (that is designed for connection to a reset button). So you have to do a power cycle to reset, which is of course more damaging, potentially, to the hardware.

Overall Review: This computer was quite a disappointment, as I generally like ASUS products. I did not realize the problems with the hardware were in fact caused by the base hardware for some time, as I was setting up various things attached. But I noticed the first crash within just a day or two of unboxing, and at this point, it is clear that not only does it have this problem, which could be just this unit, but also a very poor RAID implementation, which is almost certainly endemic to the model, and probably a number of ASUS motherboards.
