Pros: cheap price,runs quiet
Cons: no on or off switch
drive failed after 2 months
horrible technical support
Other Thoughts: Toshiba customer support was terrible. The cs rep i spoke with was very rude. I called to say my harddrive failed and her response, what do you mean it failed? i said it crashed and my data is gone. she then told me my files were corrupted and to install and run the nti backup program which would reformat the harddrive like new. i took it to the local pc repair and paid to have my data recovered. i'm going back to iomega harddrives. my 1 tb worked for years with no problems.nyou get what you pay for. that was $70 down the drain.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: HP 255 AMD E1-Series 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 15.6" Notebook Windows 8 64-bit
Pros: lightweight, has 3 usb ports, an hdmi port, a vga port and ethernet port.
Cons: bottom gets hot to touch
poor battery life
no instruction manual,
Other Thoughts: i bought this 4 months ago when i needed a new laptop. i went with this model because it was on sale for $300. this is my 3rd hp pc and i always had good service from them. my last laptop was a dell that had so many problems right out the box that i swore i'd never buy another. my only complaint is with the operating system. unfortunately they only had windows 8 laptops for sale.it comes without a paper manual.just trying to set up the laptop is frustrating. the "instructional video" that is installed on the laptop just tells you all the wonderful things you can do and not actually how to do them. i had to get on my desktop and go online and google how to even turn the thing off.it automatically goes to sleep mode when you close the lid. i prefer to shut it down when not in use. win 8 runs like a tablet. everything requires apps.the windows app store is horrible. it wouldn't be so bad if you could download from the goggle play store. if you want to play solitaire, you have to sign in to a xbox live account and download a solitaire game app.the free apps are full of ads and after spending $300 for the pc, i don't want to pay for games that came free with windows 7.
i'm used to using tiles from my tablet, so that's not a problem for me, but people who are use to a desktop configuration will be shocked. because there is no manual, i had to google how to configure it to run in desktop mode. also the touchpad works like a touchscreen. you have to swipe in certain directions to do certain actions. the battery life sucks. it says 6-8 hrs, but if you stream video,or play games, while listening to music, your battery life lasts about 2-3 hrs.
the laptop gets hot to touch after a couple of hours of use, so you will need to buy a laptop cooler if you are holding it on your lap for more than a couple of hours. it's not enough to burn, but you can feel the heat exausts from the side vents. i use a foam pad that raises the laptop up so the heat can escape out from the bottom.
Pros: is easy to install,
Cons: cord is extremely short and falls out of port with the slightest movement.
no on or off switch
Other Thoughts: i bought this for extra storage.i have windows 8 and my computer recognized the harddrive really easily. i just plugged it in and the computer did the rest. i read the reviews and knew not to install the extra software that it came with. i used my computer's backup software program instead.i backed up files from my laptop,my tablet,my camera and mp3 player with no problems. i just plugged them in and dragged and dropped the files i wanted to save.i only had it about 2 months, so i hope it lasts. i know this has a lot of drive failures but 2tb for $70 it was worth the risk. my only complaint is the cord is extremely short you have to place the harddrive right next to your computer. my desktop has ports in the back so i had to buy an usb extension cord to use it because my electrical socket is on the side of the computer desk. if i place the harddrive on the side of the pc close to the wall socket, the usb cord won't reach the ports on the back of my pc. the harddrive is small enough (about the size of a bible) that i thought i could travel with it and my laptop, but because the cord is so sensitive to movement(it falls out the port at the slightest touch) i only use it at home on my desktop.READ FULL REVIEW
