Overall Review: i bought this 4 months ago when i needed a new laptop. i went with this model because it was on sale for $300. this is my 3rd hp pc and i always had good service from them. my last laptop was a dell that had so many problems right out the box that i swore i'd never buy another. my only complaint is with the operating system. unfortunately they only had windows 8 laptops for sale.it comes without a paper manual.just trying to set up the laptop is frustrating. the "instructional video" that is installed on the laptop just tells you all the wonderful things you can do and not actually how to do them. i had to get on my desktop and go online and google how to even turn the thing off.it automatically goes to sleep mode when you close the lid. i prefer to shut it down when not in use. win 8 runs like a tablet. everything requires apps.the windows app store is horrible. it wouldn't be so bad if you could download from the goggle play store. if you want to play solitaire, you have to sign in to a xbox live account and download a solitaire game app.the free apps are full of ads and after spending $300 for the pc, i don't want to pay for games that came free with windows 7. i'm used to using tiles from my tablet, so that's not a problem for me, but people who are use to a desktop configuration will be shocked. because there is no manual, i had to google how to configure it to run in desktop mode. also the touchpad works like a touchscreen. you have to swipe in certain directions to do certain actions. the battery life sucks. it says 6-8 hrs, but if you stream video,or play games, while listening to music, your battery life lasts about 2-3 hrs. the laptop gets hot to touch after a couple of hours of use, so you will need to buy a laptop cooler if you are holding it on your lap for more than a couple of hours. it's not enough to burn, but you can feel the heat exausts from the side vents. i use a foam pad that raises the laptop up so the heat can escape out from the bottom.

Overall Review: Toshiba customer support was terrible. The cs rep i spoke with was very rude. I called to say my harddrive failed and her response, what do you mean it failed? i said it crashed and my data is gone. she then told me my files were corrupted and to install and run the nti backup program which would reformat the harddrive like new. i took it to the local pc repair and paid to have my data recovered. i'm going back to iomega harddrives. my 1 tb worked for years with no problems.nyou get what you pay for. that was $70 down the drain.
