Seagate BarraCuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: HDD been running solid for over a year now. Originally my primary drive, i moved it to be a backup drive when Sata III became more widely available.

Cons: Not Sata III

Overall Review: Came in a bundle with my 6870's. Pretty nice deal. Keep being Awesome Newegg. Helped out my finances for my first build.

Some Assembly Required

StarTech.com PCI Express to 4 Slot PCI Expansion System Model PEX2PCI4
StarTech.com PCI Express to 4 Slot PCI Expansion System Model PEX2PCI4

Pros: We used this in one of our production environments where we needed the extra PCI slots, that were not specc'd with the PC. after a bit of work it worked fine, no IRQ errors. it was probably the easiest solution in the long run, has its own external power supply, so as long as it is powered up before the PC, your good as gold.

Cons: We did not order through Newegg, due to corporate restrictions. Mistake one. We are uncertain if it was through shipping or shoddy worksmanship, but the PCIe board was damaged when it arrived (Packaged fairly well.) I would recommend being fairly competant at soldering, because the resistors are incredibly small and at $450~ its a huge mistake if you screw up. On top of the damaged PCIe board, the enclosure had the internal board tossing around with all of the screws to hold it in place. NO ASSEMBLY. Huge cut into time having to remount the board on something that should have come from factory pre-made. We ordered a PCI enclosure, not a do it yourself Radio Shack project.

Overall Review: We were down to the wire on time. If that hadn't been such an issue the assembly would have been less of a problem. However Startech could really use some Quality Control on these things, its a dissappoint to open the box up and start off with damaged goods followed by a box of parts.

Trash. Plain ole Trash.

Thermaltake Element G VL10001W2Z Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Thermaltake Element G VL10001W2Z Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: It has Fans. Pretty Lights. Tooless HDD Cage.

Cons: Pretty much Destroyed in everyway on arrival. Front/Top Fans had cable ripped from the physical fan. Contacted Thermaltake, Wait 1 week. Have them ship both fans, recieve 1 fan. Inquire as to why i recevied 1 fan. I was told i would have to start a new RMA. Threw a fit on the support line, had the second fan overnighted. Attempted to replace fans. Complete Pain to lift the top half of the case up to reconnect the new fans to the Controller, only to find the Fan controller does not work either. Another Angry email later. I get a new Fan Controller, Still no luck. At this point i was Done. Bought a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811998065 just wired everything around the Thermaltake one. About 4 months ago, Around the 1 year mark for ownership. The Rear exhaust fan Seized. I would have expected longer than a year on a case fan. But thats just me. Poor Cable management. Holes are there for you to Run wires, but not enough for all of them. 20+4 for ex

Overall Review: If i hadnt had such a miserable experience with their Customer Support getting me the right parts. Or even delivering a working product to begin with. I probably would have rated this case around a 4. Airflow is decent once i got everything working right. I just had do 5x more work on my end to get things in working order.

They were Great

XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card HD-687A-ZNFC
XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card HD-687A-ZNFC

Pros: Handle'd almost everything at Max'd settings... a year ago. I can blaze through Crysis. with shadows low, AA tuned down. etc. I really thought much higher of these cards when i bought them for my first build. They get the Job done for a budget PC. which is why i bought them.

Cons: 1st. Noise. These fans, are terrible, I brought this pc to my office at work. pretty leisure environment, Free power bill. So the perfect place right? Wrong. Thing is louder than a semi storming through the place. Cards idle at like 48C, and if they get under even the slightest load, expect at least 65C. Custom Fan profiles helped somewhat, but there was just no cooling these bad boys. Running Eyefinity was a joke. I should have read up on it more to be fair. But needing special DVI Active adapters is rediculous. With two of these in Crossfire, i cant even get the performance i would expect across three monitors. I imagine the bottleneck at the VRAM. but after all the hassle to get three monitors set up and rocking, and to have line tearing, and very slow responses when moving windows. (on the desktop. Not even in game) I am all around disappointed. When it was just one little 21 inch 1080 monitor, these were great, Go any bigger, and no dice.

Overall Review: I give them a 4, they do what they should. I think i just expected to much. But if your like me and have plans on spanning out in the future. These cards were not future proof for me, not even a year proof.

Pretty sweet mobo

GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Board was great at the time. Loved the options in the Bios, worked out really well with everything i had going on in my first build. intuitive interface. plenty of features.

Cons: Space. The PCI Ex slots are a bit close. Granted my first build i totally botched installing my Xfire'd 6870's, The fact that the top two most PCI Ex slots are the x16, which are the recommended slots for Xfire... ALLOW NO AIR MOVEMENT. Cards ran hot anyways, but it wasnt until the other day when i finally opened the case back up and said to myself "WHAT was i thinking" After bumping the second card to the third PCI Ex slot. I ended up bottlenecking my Slots to x8, but more airflow increased performance out of the cards.

Overall Review: The Blue didnt really match my Case, but heh. If i knew then what i know now.

Decent RAM

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9T-12GBRL

Pros: Ram was easy to install, Love the heatsinks, Style and functionality. Everything tied in well with my Black&Red case. This was everything i could ask for in my first Build. Overclocked to 1600 without issue. System has been running like this since March 13th 2011. All three sticks still functional

Cons: None

Overall Review: Wish i could remember why i went for 12 instead of 16gigs. Money was tighter then, probably the reason. I would reccommend the 4x4 instead, leaving that one empty slot always left me feeling empty.

Exactly what it looks like

a nice case, fits well around an Otterbox Commuter case for Evo 4g. it was hard finding a decent carrying case that wouldent cost 30$, its a tad snug but it gets the job done, and looks pretty good too
